Go to Dave Dykes site and check out the 2 videos he's got on there from Langhorne in 1951
http://www.racingthroughtime.com/

Note that when the one car goes through the wall and out into the woods they didn't even throw the yellow. The race ending wreck is like a scene from the blues brothers. Thanks Dave I enjoyed every second of it!

Almost like an early enduro 106 cars!

sure looked like it Jaws.

How Don Black got just a broken leg and even survuved that wreck (the first car that crashed and is hit continuosly) is beyond me. The fact that Holly Bunn had a 5 lap lead before half way indicates that a tightening of the motor rules might be needed....

awesome vid of how it was done in the olden days.

Very cool. That wreck at the end was scary, but i have to admit, i laughed out loud -- it was like an enduro!

The quality of those old videos, both voice & picture, seem better than most of the new stuff like youtube and others.

Thank Dave Dykes - his column is weekly at the Speedway line report and costantly posts pics that bring back the heyday and my childhood of Modified Racing.

amazing video quality for 1951. what a wreck. man, auto racing has come a long way from its ruleless and wild past.

Great film footage there...scary stuff on so many levels. Check out how close the racing groove is to the pit stalls going into the turn (.24 seconds into the second video)!
If I recall accounts of the big wreck correctly, it was sun glare entering the turn that caused such carnage.

Edit: Favorite quotes were:
Narrator: "the blackboard says OK...really OK?"
Track announcer to fans: "...please keep away from the track"
