REED WINS MODIFIEDS; KREMER TAKES SPORTSMAN 50 LAPPER AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

Steven Reed of Freehold won his second Modified stock car main event of the year while Charlie Kremer III of Toms River tasted victory in the Sportsman division’s 50-lap championship race at Wall Stadium Saturday night. Trevor Alspach of Willingboro in the Legend Cars division, Rob Hyer of Middletown in the Street Stock division and Brick’s Shannon Mongeau in the Factory Stock division were support event winners.

In the Supreme Manufacturing Modified 40-lapper, Shaun Carrig of Little Falls was the early leader until Reed dove to the inside lane in the first turn to take the top spot on lap two. Reed then raced out into the lead as Chas Okerson of Freehold and Anthony Sesely of Matawan charged into second and third.

Sesely was able to advance to second on a lap 11 restart. He then chased Reed all the way to the checker flag while Okerson ran a tight third to the finish. Carrig settled for fourth, while Tommy Farrell of Middletown overcame a lap one flat tire to finish fifth.

In the Sportsman 50-lapper, Tim Stephan of Brick and Kremer wrestled for the lead early before Kremer took command of the event. After that, defending division champ Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck raced into second and chased Kremer to the finish. Kevin Davison of Howell was third, while Adam LaCicero of Lavallette and Spring Lake’s Mike Smith were fourth and fifth.

Alspach won his fifth Legend Cars 25-lapper by taking over the top spot on lap seven from early leader Joe Mongeau. Alspach then raced to victory over Brian Spencer of Edison, Mark Tischler of Martinsville, Zach Alspach of Willingboro and Justin Gumley of Colts Neck.

Hyer jumped to the lead at the outset of the Street Stock 25-lapper and never looked back. Ray Minieri of Bay Shore, N.Y. won a great battle for second, while Jackson’s Howie Conk, Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood and Richie Byrne of Wall were third through fifth.

After Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach led most of the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stock 20-lapper, Mongeau moved into second and stalked the leader. On lap 16 Mongeau swung to the outside lane and raced into the lead and on to the eventual win. Downey held on for second, with Whitey Miller of Jamesburg, third. Wall’s Rob Longo and Mike Bilello of Neptune were fourth and fifth.
