Build Calverton Speedway

Build Calverton Speedway is an organization dedicated to getting a motor sports park built at the Calverton Executive Airpark.

There have been numerous proposals over the past 10 years to get a track and drag strip built there, all of which were shot down. In 2007 Riverhead Resorts won the bid for the land to build an indoor ski mountain and resort. Now in 2010 they have yet to finish paying for the land; they have also asked for extensions, and missed those deadlines. More recently the Shinnecock Nation has chosen this site as a possible location for their casino.

Long Island has a rich history in racing, which has been destroyed by factories and shopping malls. Building this facility would give auto enthusiasts a safe and controlled place to drag race, and a NASCAR track would bring in thousands of tourists, which would help small businesses in the area.

Never found it odd how riverhead town or the county has a meeting scheduled for say the 8th and then somehow they find out there is going to be a issue and it's moved up to that night....

I found it odd how when the vote for the 1st 3 free extensions got pushed up 3 days when they seen we were coming...

If you do not JOIN you do not get notified.... So you really aren't anyone then that really cares about getting a new facility since YOU miss the notification e-mail and can't see the other board....which means you don't support yourself

Well, now into adulthood, what you do at LIMA is being considered a dictatorship and that's what is turning many away. I support your ideals 100% but it is the way you go about it that I, and many, have the problem with. Getting rid of the "it's my way or no way" would increase your following so much. As would not being so secretive on areas of your board. I have never been against you although you had fought with me here, it was only how you go about it that was the problem. You had even stated in the last election thread here that you "laughed at us unknowledgeable ones" who live in Riverhead (par ex). I do think it was the last line in that same thread that you had stated "a piece of paper was better then Blass". Funny, 2 months before that post you made, we "unknowledgeable ones" knew she wasn't even running! Putting those down that don't totally agree with you does not gain you momentum, it loses support.... Everyone does have a right to their opinion, whether it is exactly your's or not... and right now, that is a small problem with so many more supporters you could have...
Nothing for nothing, but seeing a comment that this is also affecting your business would open my eyes to maybe something should change in your presentation of things...

I'll give that a +2!!! I've been reading LI Jam for years and it wasn't until I started shooting for the site that I finally broke down and made an account... Trying to get people to join forums is a pain, I can't even get the guys in my car club to join the forum to discuss club business and where their dues are going...

but nope... and then a once scared to death town board looking to make a deal the night before says...is this all your people...

then how many times have i came here in the past and the stupidity starts about how im ruining riverhead raceway.....im gonna kill it.....

I have been following this entire soap opera about lima quite long enough. The concept of your fight to have a NEW track built in calverton, is a commendable act. That being said, you really shouldn't put anybody's personality DOWN, as so many of your post's have done. I fought for 5 years against a developer and a village board,and lost big time. I did get some support but ultimately when my supporters didn't bother anymore, i basically gave up my fight! Sometimes in life it's better to say i tried,and hold your head high. I applaud you and stand behind your efforts, best of luck.

I don't care if there are 5 organizations/groups fighting to get a race track built at Calverton, I would throw my support behind each of them 100% to get it done. I've always thought that was the objective here.
My union has a saying, "United we win, divided we beg". Think about that for a moment before you throw the next barb at anyone who wants what YOU want.
So, however and whomever puts together a group to push for this, if everyone worked towards the common goal, instead of nitpicking every little thing, we might just get something done at Calverton that results in getting a race facility built.

You know what? The next time the Build Calverton Speedway group is doing something, I want to know. As soon as I am done posting this, I'm joining your facebook page and signing your petiton. I'm curious to see how long before you start having to deal with what we have been dealing with for years. When you go to talk to the Riverhead Town Board, I want to be there. When it's time for action, let me know. The window on the developable property is about to open in six months. Don't worry about a casino, there is a clause that doesn't permit gaming on the property. Berman's property is not affected, which is why he pitched the idea to the Shinecock Tribe. And not for nothing, you could have your road course on what is there now. The Calverton Executive Airpark only uses runway 14/32. 5/23 is just sitting there.

And another thing. Principles before personalities is a way to look at life. Just cause you don't "like" someone, doesn't mean you cannot support thier ideas or goals. Always keep your eye on the prize. If I had to "like" what I encounter at the grocery store, I would probably starve to death. Just sayin'.

The property needs to be utilized in a way will preserve its openness... How's the water problems in Suffolk doing? I know my parents are pumping away... Wonder why the water is so bad in recent years? It has nowhere to go... Yea, lets put more buildings that screw with the aquifers, tax the power grid and will do nothing but employ those standing on Portion Road in Farmingville... I wonder how they are going to keep a 10 story indoor ski hill cool enough for snow in weather like we're having this week... Are they going to have their own power station??? What's going to cause more pollution, a coal/gas fired power plant to supply the electricity for the ski hill 24/7 or 20 cars running a few days a week???

Marty you hit the nail on the head quite a bit. You know what?? Some of us may not get it like you do........because we are still fortunate enough to have a racetrack. They took yours from you. So instead of attacking people for not having your passion...............Kiss there ass a little, educate people a little, you seem to have most of the answers to the questions. Your message is clear, and its a good one. It's just the way you present it sometimes. Again folks when reading Marty's posts remember he's put a lot into this, and he needs to go to Jersey if he wants to race. He's only trying to prevent that for us Oval trackers. We can all say what we want about Riverhead, but if it was gone and we recieved no support to build something new we may be just as angry as Marty sounds on here sometimes.

Marty my suggestion, you get more with honey that you do with vinegar. Try to get your message across without insulting people. I think you'll get much futher. Again folks don't bash Marty because he's already lost his local racetrack, think of how angry you would be if you lost yours. Let's work together for one common goal, just don't be so tough on thoes of us that don't know all the answers and maybe you'll get the support you're looking for. When you act like that, we get naturally defensive. The same way you get when people snap at you on here.

All LI Jamers if this thing goes through it WILL have a lot to do with Marty and his group. I think we should try to support them where we can. As long as we're not talked to like animals we can all help eachother. So stop with the name calling and all the bashing back and forth, it'll get us nowhere.

Marty, please take the constructive criticism into mind on how many feel about the situations and how you handle them. And please pass aside those who are just bashing you. We all do know your intentions are sincere and heart felt.
