NASCAR Modifieds, Minivans and Vuvuzelas Highlight Busy Upcoming Week at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Thursday, July 1, 2010
Modifieds will be a part of the show this Tuesday night.
Proving once again there is never a dull moment at the Mecca of Motorsports, the first full week of action in July is sure to be a memorable one as NASCAR modifieds, everyday minivans and the now famous, or infamous, vuvuzela noise-makers will fight Legend Cars, Bandoleros and personal street rides for top billing at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will be featured during round five of the Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series on Tuesday night alongside a full docket of Legend Car and Bandolero action. The modifieds will run an exhibition event on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval in preparation for the series finale, the UNOH Southern Slam 150, which will be held, Oct. 14 as a part of the NASCAR Bank of America 500 Weekend.

A modified car is the earliest type of car used in NASCAR. The cars weigh just 2,645 pounds with the driver, compared to a Sprint Cup Series car which weighs 3,450 pounds with the driver. The modifieds have a unique open-wheeled design and can reach a top speed of 150 mph, powered by a V8 producing 625 horsepower.

However, the modifieds and the more than 150 Legend and Bandolero cars racing Tuesday evening may not make the most noise. That distinction may go to the vuvuzelas that will be handed out to the first 200 children through the gates. The vuvuzela has gained international attention for the constant humming sound they have made throughout the World Cup soccer matches in South Africa.

Tickets for Tuesday’s Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series are only $7 for adults, $3 for kids 6-12 and kids under 6 are admitted free. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action at 5:30 p.m. Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m. and concludes by 10:00 p.m.
