Bill Kimball Celebrates Firecracker Victory!

Fans packed the high banks stands as they prepared to deal with hot temperatures and an even a hotter racing program. The regular full schedule of Mini Stocks, Super Stocks, Outlaw Pros and Sportsman Modifieds would be joined by the touring Modified Racing Series pounding out 100 laps. The show would conclude with a huge fireworks display know as some of the best in the area.

The competitors would deal with their cars and track changing as the temperatures soared at the 5 pm start time. As qualifying began Mini Stock multi time winner Tim Jackson would have to be pushed off the track and was unable to answer the feature bell.

The Young Guns feature would prove to be an uplifting experience when winner Adam Manley would come from his roof hatch to bow to the fans in victory lane. Second went to Joe Boivin and third to Hillary Renaud. During her interview trackside fans discovered that Renaud has been learning her skills in the winter months on ice on the set-back in nearby Vernon, Vt.

Mini Stocks had some of their top guns to lead the field. Joe Rogers would start on the pole. Kevin McKnight, Chris Davis, and Chris Mctaggart, while storming to the front, connected on the back stretch. Mctaggart would clear and continue his march to the front. Kendall rejoined the field but would again have to pit with another flat. McTaggart would hold off Beth Adams for his first win this season, and JoeRogers, a seasoned competitor, would be on the podium in third.

Due to the large 33 car count for the 100 lap Modified Racing Series a consolation race would be next on the grid. The top 4 finishers would transfer to the big show, and what a race this would be. This was 15 laps of fury and excitement for the fans. A two caution race, with a crash on the front stretch would see Rowan Penick, Eddy Spiers, Max Zachem and Jeff Malave making the cut.

Super Streets cranked up the crowd with their feature event. Nick Boivin would, as anticipated, get his first win of the season in dominate fashion having almost a half track lead over points leader and second place car of Bill Johnston, while Nick Gravel secured third place. Boivin, who does double duty with the Sportman Modifieds, may have set himself up, as during the post feature interview, he expressed that his other car (Sportsman Car) was even faster and he would see the fans back here tonight.

Outlaw Pros welcomed Act Tour competitor Chris Reindeau from Ascutney Vt., who was on a night off with the tour, try his hand at the high banks. Barry Gray would snatch the lead on lap 12 and go on to post his fourth win in a row this season. Gray, after a disastrous year last season, has apparently worked the bugs out of the car. Brandon Ovitt took second and Brian Baker secured third.

The Sportsman Modified division would see former pro stock racer Bill Kimball excited to hold off second place Russ Hersey and third place Mark McClay for Kimball’s first win of the season. Hersey said that Kimball is the car to beat this year. McClay, a welcomed visitor who usually competes at Twin State, said he came tonight to feel out the competition and loves to run the highbanks. All three of these drivers have multiple challenges in full fender cars, but find this new series takes a little getting used to.

Lined up on the front stretch prior to the start Modified Racing Series drivers were here to show that Monadnock fans are Modified to the core. The fans showed their excitement as the cars parked in front of the grandstands as the drivers were introduced. The look of excitement of the faces of the spectators showed their support for this series, especially for those who are regulars here on Saturday nights. Once again Kirk Alexander and Jim Boniface proved that as natives they know the best way around the high banks. Alexander would take the 100 lap race lead on lap twelve. Boniface, who started eighth would get to the second spot to challenge Alexander. A lap 21 caution was waved when Rowan Penick and Jacob Dore spun on the back stretch and a lap 30 caution flew when veteran Eddy Spiers lost control on turn three. The third caution was thrown on lap 40 when Victor Johnson smacked the wall near the flag stand and Shelly Perry spun in turn four. Two cars that showed to be contenders were past champion John McKennedy and Dwight Jarvis. On Lap 96, seeing Boniface was loose, McKenndey's window of opportunity opened and he closed the deal snatching the second place away from Boniface. Jarvis started ninth and worked his way to the front. Jarvis has an outstanding record of top finishes. When the checkered flag waved it was Alexander, McKennedy and Boniface on top.

The question from many fans as the schedule unfolds is how are they going to run 200 laps when the Whelen Modified Series invades the fastest high bank racing in the east on July 17th. Advanced tickets are on sale now for this very special event.

Racing will resume this Saturday, July 10th featuring the speedway’s own Tour Type Modifieds plus Atlantic Coast Old-timers, Allison Legacy, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Young Guns and Full Size Enduros. Race time is at 6pm.
