I have a Magellan, and honestly, not a big fan. I wish I still had my garmin. I say spend the little bit extra and get the Garmin. Easier to use and better satellite position.

I have a TomTom and have not had one issue with it. You can get the TomTom One for about $110 when on sale, and depending on where and when you travel the maps will be good for four or five years especially in this economy they are not building to many new highways. Of course if you have a Blackberry, Android or IPhone you can get most of the better brands either on a monthly charge or purchase the app for your phone and use that.
