COLE AND OKERSON SPLIT WALL MODIFIED TWIN 20’S SATURDAY

Second year Modified stock car driver Billy Cole of Farmingdale and defending Modified driving champion Chas Okerson of Freehold were winners Saturday night in “Twin 20” lap main events at Wall Stadium. For Cole it was his first ever Modified main event win while Okerson enjoyed his third win of the campaign.

Cole wasted no time in charging to the front of the first 20-lapper as Shaun Carrig of Little Falls ran second. Soon Carrig’s attention was shifted from the leader to the drivers behind him as Chris Hamilton of North Haledon and Freehold’s Steven Reed closed in. While Cole romped on to his initial victory, the battle for second kept everyone’s attention as Carrig fought off Hamilton and Reed for runner-up honors. Jackson’s Kevin Flockhart was fifth.

“I have to thank (car-owner) Chris Jenkins and my crew for this,” Cole said. “When we got together a lot of people though we had outdated equipment. We have great equipment and a great crew. My dad has put in a lot of time for this to happen.”

Farmingdale’s John McCormack jumped to the lead in the second Supreme Manufacturing Modified 20-lapper and paced the first five laps while Okerson moved into contention. Okerson then charged into the lead, while Cole’s great night continued as he advanced to second three laps later.

Okerson and Cole then raced in first and second spots the rest of the way while McCormack held on for an impressive third place finish. Flockhart and Roger Coss of Lafayette were fourth and fifth.

“I don’t know if we had the best car out here tonight, but it was good,” Okerson said. “My family and my crew take care of that. We still have the point lead, but it is still early. We have a lot of racing to go.”

Kyle Reinhardt of Neptune City challenged for 15 laps before racing into the lead and then raced on to victory in the companion 25-lapper for the Sportsman racers. It was Reinhardt’s first ever Wall Stadium win.

Charlie Kremer of Toms River was the runner-up, with point leader Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck, Brick’s Adam Gordon and early leader Chris Lane of Howell completing the top five.

Anthony Crimaldi of Port Monmouth took the lead on the 18th lap and raced on to win the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks. Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood and Keansburg’s Jerry Stanzione were second and third, while early leader Ray Minieri of Bay Shore, N.Y. and Beachwood’s Mike Tillett were fourth and fifth.

Wall’s Rob Longo passed early leader John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant with just five laps remaining to win the Flanagan Retail Development 20-lap feature race. John Gasko was second at the stripe, with Rick Siddons of Beachwood, Brick’s Ronnie Mullen and Dan Birdsall of Brick placing third through fifth.

Trevor Alspach and his brother Zack Alspach, both of Willingboro, were first and second in the Legend Cars 25-lap race. Kenny Van Wickle of Spring Lake Heights, Edison’s Brian Spencer and Mike Fulton of Bridgewater were third through fifth.

Wall Stadium roars back into action this Saturday night, August 7, with five divisions of stock car racing. The Touring Modifieds will visit for the third time this season to battle in “Twin 50” lap feature races; the Sportsman cars, Street Stocks and the Legend Cars will race in 25-lappers and the Factory Stocks will battle in a 20-lap feature. The Supreme Manufacturing Modifieds will have the night off.

Pit gates will open at 12:30 p.m. on August 7, with a paid practice session set from 1:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. The regular practice session will be up at 4:00 p.m., while grandstand seating will also open at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying is set for 6:30 p.m. and main event action is set for 7:30 p.m. This Saturday night “summer schedule” will be in effect through Labor Day weekend.

On Sunday, August 8, the fifth mile paved “inner oval” returns to action with the 2010 “Sunday Series” featuring Go Karts, wingless Midgets, Legend Cars and Micro Stocks starting at noon. For more information call 732-681-6400 or visit http://www.wallsundayseries.com.
