St. Johns, Pa- For the better part of the Modified feature at Sundance Vacations Speedway, Rusty Smith of Oxford, NY spent the better part of Sunday’s feature riding in the third position. Little did he know, the top two drivers would have a little run in, which put him in position to take his second win of the season. With $877 on the line, along with a huge trophy and plenty of lap money, Richie DiMarco of Quakertown took the checkers and became the first driver to score a repeat win in the 77-lap Mark Corbisiero Street Stock Memorial event and Dave Freundt of Lehighton extended his points lead by taking the feature in the FWD division.

Dave Schneider started from the pole and led the opening laps of the 40-lap Modified main event. Following the completion of the first lap, Tommy Wanick III ran second with Bobby Jones, Rick Parker and Brian Romig.

Jones moved into second and then overtook Schneider for the race lead on lap three. The first of seven yellow flags waved two laps later when Parker spun in turns three and four. Both Kyle Ebersole and Earl Paules had cracked the top five and the two lined up third and fourth respectively for the restart.

Green flag racing resumed and Ebersole grabbed second from Schneider. Paules followed through and the pair ran side by side for second.

With Jones still out front and with Paules in second, Ebersole tried to scoot underneath Paules for the position in turn three. The two bumped wheels and Ebersole spun from the lap 29 contact.

Paules lined up behind Joes for the restart. Rusty Smith held third, followed by Todd Baer and Nick pecko.

Green flag racing resumed and Paules was all over the leader. In an attempt to get the leader out of shape, Paules applied several shots to Jones, but he held on to the lead. That changed however and the two raced out of turn two on lap 37. Paules applied a little pressure to the leader and Jones went around.

All of sudden, Smith, who had spent most of the race patiently riding in third, became the race leader. Paules was forced to restart from the tail end of the field for the restart.

Smith was uncontested over the remaining laps and went on to score his second $1500 main event win of the season. Baer finished as the runner-up, followed by Ebersole, Pecko and Barry Callavini.

Kyle Ebersole and Nick Pecko were heat race winners.

Dale Santee led a full field of hungry Street Stock drivers to the drop of the green flag in the 77-lap Mark Corbisiero Street Stock Memorial main event. With double points, $877 to win, plus lap money on line, the race was anyone’s game.

Joe Barbush started ninth and was forced to start from the rear of the field after he was spun on the initial start. That set up a great run into the top five by the points leader.

Scott Meckes grabbed the lead from Santee before a lap was scored. Mitch Hawk held third, followed by Kevin Higgins and Richie DiMarco.

The yellow flag waved when Santee got into Hawk while coming out of turn four. Hawk pounded the front stretch wall and headed pit side for repairs. By this point in the race, Higgins had moved into second, followed by DiMarco and Chip Wanamaker.

DiMarco grabbed second from Higgins following the restart and Wanamaker followed through for third. Meanwhile, DiMarco got alongside Meckes and the two battled side by side for the lead. DiMarco finally took the lead on lap 12.

J. Barbush cracked the top five when he got around Higgins for fifth on lap 16. He held the third spot when the yellow waved on lap 36 when Higgins and Chris Burge tangled on the front stretch.

DiMarco remained out front for the restart, followed by Meckes, J. Barbush, Brad Barbush and Bill Vanderveen. It appeared that J. Barbush might have something for the leader, but he would have to get by Meckes first. DiMarco began to drive away from the rest of the field as the two drivers battled for second.

The remainder of the race was caution-free as DiMarco went on to take the top prize and become the first two-time winner of the Mark Corbisiero Memorial. He also won the event in 2007.

Meckes finished in the second spot, followed by J. Barbush, B. Barbush and Vanderveen.

Heat race victories went to Scott Meckes, Kevin Higgins and Richie DiMarco. Brad Barbush was the consi winner.

Corbisiero’s family and friends have put together and sponsored the event since his passing in 2003.

Trevor Ahouse started from the pole and the FWD field to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature. John Smith grabbed the lead in turn one and then Eric Banashefski took command before a single lap was scored. Brian Kunkel held third, followed by Dave Freundt and Jay Skupski.

Skupski moved to third, but he lost that spot to Freundt on the second lap. Shortly after, Mike Kline cracked the top five and took fourth from Skupski.

Freundt got by Kunkel for second and then set his sights on Banashefski for the lead. He completed the pass on lap 16 before taking the checkered flag for his fourth win of the season. Banashefski settled for second, followed by Kline, Kunkel and Skupski.

The Sundance Vacations Contingency winners were Kyle Ebersole, Mitch Hawk and Frank Katona.
