(LEHIGHTON, PA 9-26-10) You couldn’t ask for a better scenario to close out the 2010 season finale at Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway. Not only will the popular Poker Series be decided but the Modified title is also up for grabs.
Saturday night, October 2 will be Hand 5 of the 7 Card Stud Modified 100 Poker Series and heading into the 100-lapper there are several drivers who hold possible wining hands.

The Poker Series offers a $5000 pot that will be split between the top three who have the best poker hand from the series. $2500, $1500 and $1000 will go the top three respectively.

Currently the 2009 Poker Series winner Brian DeFebo leads with a full house. Earl Paules also has the same hand only not as high as DeFebo. Also in the running are Matt Hirschman, Eric Beers, John Markovic and Rob Shultz.
The feature will also pay $3000 to win.

Not only is there the Poker Series at stake but so too in the battle for the division crown which has come down to a two man battle between two-time and defending champion John Bennett and 2006 champ Don Wagner. The race to the crown is very intense as just five points separate the pair.

Likewise division titles will be decided in the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Modifieds and Pro4 Late Models.

Paul Koehler, Jr., is seeking his third Mahoning Late Model championship and must hold off Shawn Sitarchyk in the process. In the same class 14-year old Austin Kochenash will be aiming for his 10th win of the season which will keep him in the running for the area’s overall top asphalt Late Model winner.
Like the Modifieds the Street Stock class is extremely close as defending champ Randy Ahner, Jr., maintains a slim four point edge over Kristy Morone Arthofer. Mathematically the top six are all eligible to win the title.

In the Dirt Mods Randy Thomas should have little trouble in making it two straight with the fledgling class while in the Pro4 Late Models 16-year old Kris Graver is on the verge of winning his first ever title and if he succeeds he will become the first third generation driver at Mahoning do so, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Kevin, Sr., and uncle, Kevin Jr.

Racing gets underway starting at 6:00 pm with time trials for the Modifieds followed by heats for all others.

Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
