1992 track champion already a two-time event winner

Ted Christopher, the multi-time track champion at race tracks across Connecticut including the Speedbowl, is ready to take part in this Saturday and Sunday’s Finale Weekend event with his eyes set on taking the checkered flag. Christopher looks to become a two-time winner of the Budweiser Modified Nationals and take home the 150-lap race’s $5,000 payday.

The 2010 Thompson Speedway track champion will enter the race in the Paige #00 machine he won that title with. Christopher is winless at the ‘Bowl since 2004, the longest draught of his career at the shoreline oval. He hasn’t competed frequently at the track since 2005 when he made six starts. In all, his racing resume includes 33 career victories at the Speedbowl – third all-time at the track despite the dry spell.

Christopher will join the 2010 Stafford Motor Speedway and Speedbowl division champion Keith Rocco. Rocco was also crowned the NASCAR’s Connecticut State Champion and National Champion in its Whelen All-American Series. Other past champions expected in the field include Ron Yuhas Jr. (2009), Rob Janovic Jr. (2007), Dennis Gada (1999-2003, 2006, 2008), Jeff Pearl (1998) and Todd Ceravolo (1997). Christopher was the 1992 track champion. Another past division champion, Ed Reed Jr. (2004), will qualify the Gaydosh #94 for the SK-150. In all, 13 of the past 14 track champions will be present.

Last year, Christopher finished a disappointing 19th in the race after running as high as fifth. Mechanical failure sidelined his charge through the field after starting in the back. Christopher won the Modified Nationals event in 1999. His last top-ten in the race came in 2005 when he finished tenth after leading early. Nobody has won the Nationals more than twice in its history.

The 14th annual Budweiser Modified Nationals takes place October 8-10 boasting a purse of over $20,000. Practice on Friday leads into qualifying on Saturday by way of time trials for the top-20 with the fast qualifier earning a $500 bonus. A consolation race rounds out the 26-starters for Sunday’s 150-lap event. For more information please visit Speedbowl.com (http://www.speedbowl.com).
