STAR SPEEDWAY RELEASES 2011 SCHEDULE
EPPING, NH- The 2011 Star Speedway Schedule has now been released, and with it comes word that a title sponsor has been signed for the headlining Tour-Type Modified division at the quarter-mile oval.
EKeys 4 Cars will be the season-long sponsor of the Modified division, and they have also have added their name to the big June 4 Open Modified event by sponsoring a $250 EKeys 4 Cars Halfway Bonus on lap 63 of the 125-lap event.
EKeys 4 Cars is a company that was established to provide the car owner with an alternative source for transponder keys. Their dedicated staff of Professional Automotive Lock Specialists can service any of your car key needs from their Windham, N.H. location.
The season will begin on May 7, following a practice day for all divisions on April 30. The first of four premiere events in 2011 comes on May 14, as the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) returns on May 14 for what promises to be an exciting 150-lap event. Along with PASS on that night will be the first event of the season for the Modifieds.
Interest in the return of the Modifieds to Star is at an all-time high, with American Racer Tire Company, Sunoco Race Fuels and now Ekeys4cars adding money to the season point fund.
Pete Frappier was hired this past week to ensure an equal playing field for those seeking the Star Speedway Modified Championship. He joins Star Speedway Tech Specialist Russ Nutting to form one of the best Tech Inspection teams in the country. More than 20 Modified teams have already requested registration information.
Following PASS, the next big event on the season schedule will be the June 4 Tour-Type Modified 125, bringing with it a base purse of $25,000, but added bonus money will likely swell the purse payout to more than $30,000. Associate sponsorship for this event is being provided by Hoosier Tire East and race fan, "Long Island Mod Maniac", with a headline sponsor to be named as the event draws near.
A lap sponsor program for this June 4 race was recently introduced, with a number of laps, and additional bonus awards already secured for the event. Laps are being sold at a minimum of $50, with $25 going to the race leader, and the other $25 being distributed each lap by a draw of the drivers running in the top ten on each lap.
Among the early entries are popular champion Modified drivers Mike Stefanik, Ted Christopher, Dwight Jarvis, Jon McKennedy, and 2008 Star Speedway and NASCAR State Champion Louie Mechalides. With both New England Modified tours having the week off, a large field of entrants is more than likely.
In addition to the large payout will be a second payoff to the teams who raced at the track under the previous ownership in the form of a point fund reward. The 2008 four race All-Star Series was won by Matt Hirschman. The amount of this payoff will be directly determined by the financial success of this event, making this a Modified race like no other, where race fans can help the race teams by supporting this event.
The Star Speedway, which will be back under the leadership of the Webber family for the first time since 2006, has also scheduled a return of "The Classic". It's an ISMA Super Modified event like no other that will take place on Saturday, September 10, returning to a 150-lap distance that is sure to please what is always a near capacity crowd of race fans.
Enduro enthusiasts will find a full slate of events scheduled for 2011 as well, highlighted by the 26th annual Halloween Howler on October 29. Star Speedway is not only a perfect place to see side-by-side racing action on a weekly basis, but it remains one of the best venues in the country to see Enduro racing at its finest.

I'm glad Star has already started promoting this race. Not a lot of fans showed up in 2008 and the first race had as good a starting grid as one could ever ask for. Even the heats were good. I hope things turn out better for them in 2011.

Sounds great Mike. Out here it's not a matter of if there is a Modified race to go to on a given weekend, but which one to attend.

So far for regular weekly competitors I've been hearing Jim Lowery, Russ Wood Jr, and Mike Douglas Jr....just need to get a ride for Mike Ordway Jr and it'll sound like a classic 1980's Star Super Modifed line up!

Just curious, how this will affect the car count at Monadnock, and also how this could affect the car count at the MRS races?

JMO: It will hurt car counts @ both venues.

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow LOL.

Really? The last time Star ran Modifieds it helped car counts by adding new Modified drivers to the mix, like Jacob Dore, Mike Murphy and Josh Cantara to name a few. The new Modified division has already done the same before the first race, putting Russ Wood Jr., and Jim Lowrey's son in Modifieds for the first time. In the end it adds more Modified drivers, as history proves. If they decide to move up, where will they go? Into Pro Stocks?

Funny you mentioned Pro Stocks. The MRS folks have put together a new Pro Stock series for 2011. Sounds like they are going to try it in 2011 to see if it can develop into something more down the road.

If anything it will give more options to the modified race teams and the track or series giving them the best options will be the winner... and the fans of course.

SUfan: The question was will it hurt car counts @ Monadnock and the MRS and yes it will hurt car counts at both venues IMO. Star will attract race teams from both venues because teams like to run Star Speedway. It's all positive for Modified racing overall and yes new teams will be developed from the addition of Star to the Modified ranks and I have not said that their will be less Modified race teams overall. All I said was it will take some Modified race teams away from both venues that would prefer to run a regular schedule @ Star Speedway. It's all good.

Just read that Kirk Alexander is going to run a part time schedule at Star. I'm guessing the weeks that Monadnock's modifieds are off

Popular Maine driver David Pinkham stated yesterday that he hopes to run the full season at Star with the same team he had success with in MRS events.
