Although the weather is still cold and dreary, the staff and management of Wall Stadium is busy planning for the fast approaching warmer months and for the 2011 professional stock car racing season. Although much work still remains in the preparing for the 2011 stadium schedule, track operator Cliff Krause says that he and his staff are planning on an opening date in mid-April.

“We got a bit of a late start on the schedule because the arrangements for us to operate the track were not finalized until early-January,” Krause said. “We also have to talk to a lot of people and organizations as we put the schedule together to avoid conflicts and to set the best dates for our various events.

‘We just want to let everyone know that we are working to release a schedule as soon as we can. We also wanted to let all of the racing fans and competitors know that we are planning to open in mid-April so that they can be prepared.”

Krause also mentioned that plans are being finalized for at least two pre-season paid practice sessions with tentative dates planned for early-April Saturday afternoons. Current plans call for Saturday evening stock car racing events to run until the end of September featuring Wall Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock, Factory Stock and Legend Cars divisions. Each of these “regular divisions” will have a few Saturday nights off during the regular season. Visiting divisions are being considered for the 2011 campaign and the “Turkey Derby.”

Recently, Krause inked a lease to keep Wall Stadium open after it appeared that the 60-year-old stock car track might be closed for good. The track was abruptly shuttered last September after its then-manager, Jim Morton, could not keep it afloat, blaming the tough economy. A one-race deal was then set up to present the annual Turkey Derby last November.

Wall Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
