STAFFORD SPEEDWAY ADDS IZOD INDYCAR VETERAN DAVEY HAMILTON TO CARQUEST CHAMPIONS FOR CHARITIES DRIVER LINEUP
The June 28th CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions
for Charities Event at Stafford Motor Speedway has added an Indy 500 flair
with the addition of “500” Veteran Davey Hamilton. Hamilton will take part
in the CARQUEST Champions For Charities go kart race while racing for The
Victory Junction Gang Camp. The Victory Junction Gang Camp was built in
honor of Adam Petty and they provide life-changing experiences for children
with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.
“I love to be able to help kids,” said Hamilton. “We’re very fortunate in
that we are able to do what we do racing cars and anytime I can do something
for kids, I always like to help out.”
Hamilton is a veteran of West Coast Supermodified competition, winning a
total of 6 championships from 1987-1991 in Northwest Supermodified
Association, Western States Supermodified Tour, Supermodified Racing
Association, and Injected Fire and Fury Series supermodified competition.
Hamilton’s Supermodified success carried him to the world of IndyCars.
His IZOD IndyCar career started in 1996, with the Idaho native finishing the
9th in the Series point chase. Hamilton finished second in IZOD IndyCar
points for two consecutive years, finishing behind Tony Stewart in 1997 and
Kenny Brack in 1998. Hamilton took part in every IndyCar Series race from
the series’ inception in 1996 through the Texas race in 2001 when injuries
sustained from a crash ended his streak of consecutive starts at 48 races.
Hamilton has made 10 career starts in the Indy 500 and his best finish was a
fourth place in 1998. His appearance in a Wild Thing Kart Senior Outlaw
machine for the CARQUEST Champions for Charities event will take him back
to his early racing days.
“It’s been years since I’ve been behind the wheel of a go kart,” said
Hamilton. “My son races go karts and I spend all my time working on them, I
haven’t had the chance to drive. It’s going to be pretty cool to be able to
race a go kart for charity.”
In addition to his CARQUEST Champions For Charities appearance, Hamilton
hopes to also test his West Coast Supermodified skills in the headline event
that night.
“I’m working on a deal right now with Mike Muldoon to drive one of his ISMA
supers,” said Hamilton. “The supers are my favorite cars to drive, that’s
where it all got started for me. Without racing supermodifieds on the west
coast, I never would have had the opportunity that I did to go IndyCar
racing. I’ve only been to Stafford once before and that was as a spectator,
but I was very impressed with the facility and the speed of the cars. I’m
excited about coming back to race at Stafford and I’m looking forward to
raising some money for charity.”
CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday will take place on June 28, 2011 and will also
feature the ISMA Super Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, and Pro-4 Modifieds.
Tickets for CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday are on sale now at the Speedway Box
Office and are priced at $30.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00
for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of
charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating is priced at $32.00
for all ages. As always, Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking with
overnight parking available.
