St. Johns, PA- Despite being spun from the lead in the early stages of the event, Rob McCormick of Long Island, NY rebounded and lapped the entire field to take his first win of the season in round #2 of the Mountain Madness Enduro Series Saturday at Mountain Speedway. Time trials were held for Sunday’s season opener and Rusty Smith (Sport Modified), Travis Fisher (Late Model) and Tom Cassagrande (Factory Stock) timed the quickest and will start from the pole position in each of their feature events.

Tom Szoke started from the pole and was overtaken by second place starter, Rob McCormick before a lap was complete in the 100-lap 6/8-cylinder Mountain Madness enduro. Szoke settled into the second spot, followed by Bill Schwenck, Dege Russell and Mike Parisi.

Last year’s champion, TJ Kapish, started twelfth and made his presence known early. He caught and spun Szoke to take the third spot on the third lap and then tangled with Schwenck to take the second spot on lap 16.

McCormick continued out from on lap 25 with Kapish, James Presley, Ed Brown, Jr. and Schwenck in tow. Just when it appeared that McCormick had the race in the bag, he was spun from the lead on lap 37.

Kapish took command and appeared to be on his way to his second career victory, but a tired problem forced him into the pits on lap 45 and McCormick regained control of the event.

McCormick continued to lap vehicles and led Schwenck, Presley, Brown and Szoke at halfway.

With 23 laps remaining, the leader lapped Schwenck, who ran in the second spot. Meanwhile, Ned Coolbaugh began to make his charge to the front and cracked the top five.

Untouchable in the closing laps, McCormick cruised to the victory over Presley, Coolbaugh and Brown. While fighting many issues on his car, Schwenck salvaged a fifth place finish.
