WALL STADIUM STOCK CAR OPENER POSTPONED FOR SECOND TIME; MODIFIEDS, ON-TRACK PARTY, EASTER EGG HUNT ALL RESET FOR THIS SATURDAY (APRIL 30)
A second straight Saturday of rainy and cold conditions forced Wall Stadium Speedway track operator Cliff Krause to again postpone his stock car season opener. The new date is this Saturday (April 30) and will feature every event that was planned for the original date. Of special note is that the “Easter Egg Hunt” will be presented due to a large volume of telephone calls requesting it, although the starting time will be pushed back to 3:00 p.m.
The “On-Track Party,” where fans get to walk down on the speedway and see the cars up close and meet the drivers, will be presented at 4:30 p.m. The evening’s racing card, which will feature the Wall Modifieds, Sportsman cars, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Legend Cars, will start at 6:00 p.m. sharp.
“This is not what I imagined when I took over the lease in January,” Krause said Saturday. “When you run a speedway you think of warm weather and a lot of fun and excitement.
“I guess we will all have to be patient and wait until this weekend for that.”
The current schedule for the now twice postponed April 30 season opener will see the competitor pit area open at 11:30 a.m., with a paid testing session for competitors then running from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, a free for children age 12 and under “Easter Egg Hunt” will be conducted in the grandstand concourse starting at 3:00 p.m.
The regular afternoon practice session will then begin at 2:30 p.m. and run until 4:00 p.m., while spectator seating will open for the first time this season at 3:00 p.m.
The “On Track Party” will set up after practice and run from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. to be followed by an on track exhibition by the Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club. All the while, on-air personalities from WRAT 95.9 FM radio will be on hand meeting with fans. Racing action on the third mile paved oval will then begin at 6:00 p.m. with qualifying events to be followed by feature race action for all five divisions.
