The return of Star Speedway to the racing world is about to begin. Practice for all divisions is slated for this Saturday afternoon, April 30. Gates will swing open at 11:00 AM, with practice running from 1-5:00 PM.

Among the more than 30 entries in the EKeys 4 Cars Tour-Type Modified division, which will headline weekly racing at Star, is popular veteran David Pinkham, from Buxton, Maine. Pinkham, while excited about the season about to begin, realizes that the competition will be a big challenge.

"I just think the first track that grabbed the Mod's, it will be a big hit for them," Pinkham noted. "I just think a lot of the guys are tired of the traveling, the cost of fuel and are looking forward to having some fun again.

"I'm very excited. Our car is all ready to go. We've had the engine totally rebuilt and have gone through the entire car."

Pinkham will likely have to contend with close to a full field of cars on May 14, when the Modifieds take their first official green flag of 2011.

The Star Speedway season officially begins with opening night on May 7, headlined by the "Outlaw" Late Model division, which will race bi-weekly at Star this season. Also competing on opening night will be the Road Runners, Rookie Stocks and Classic Lites, along with four and eight cylinder enduros to close out the opening night program.

The Modified opener will be the following week on May 14, with the PASS Super Late Model Tour, to form a doubleheader of headline racing at the quarter-mile oval.

Among the other contenders for an opening night victory should be fellow Maine driver Josh Cantara, driving the Hannaford entry. With no other Modified events being held in New England on that night, a number of non-weekly competitors are expected to be in the field on opening night.

Star Speedway would like to thank point fund contributors EKeys 4 Cars, Sunoco Race Fuels, Coca-Cola, American Racer Tires, Kayem Hot Dogs, T.J. Co., and Danger Designs for their contributions, helping make the rebirth of the track a success already.
