Affordable mid-week family fun is back with weekly wacky races in 2011

Waterford Speedbowl’s popular mid-week
Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday racing program returns Wednesday May 4, beginning
a 20-week campaign highlighted by affordable family fun and hotly
contested racing excitement. Four divisions of racing including Legends
Cars, Bandolero youth racing, Super X-Cars and X-Cars, plus a wacky race
make up the schedule of events every Wednesday evening. The program runs
weekly through September 21 with racing getting underway at 7:00pm.

Entering its 11th season, Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesdays will continue to offer
adult grandstands admission for only $7.00 while all youth ages 14 and
under are admitted free. Acres of free event parking and the only venue
in southern New England dedicated to a weekly “wacky” race adds to the
Speedbowl’s reputation as a great value-priced, family night out.

“We have an incredible amount of entertainment for not a lot of money”
offers track promoter Terry Eames. “And that’s across all facets of the
industry – the movies, a ball game, a day to the beaches – a twenty dollar
bill goes a long way on Wednesdays at the ‘Bowl”.

The X-Car and Super X-Car divisions will rotate participating in a wacky
race event each week, beginning with a “Flagpole Race” where competitors
must circle an obstacle, or flagpole, each lap. On May 4, X-Cars will
compete in the event followed by Super X-Cars on May 11. The wacky series
will feature various novelty races during the season. Points will be kept
and awarded to those participating, culminating in a wacky champion being
crowned for the first time in Speedbowl history.

While the Speedbowl’s Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
racing is known for incredible competition and high-speed asphalt chess
matches, the competition across Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday’s race divisions
is equally intense and offers thrills around every corner. Frequent
three-wide racing, and often more, is offered up on a routine basis in all
the divisions. The future stars of tomorrow are on display in the
Bandolero and Legends Car classes as youths age 8 through their teen years
sharpen their racing skills.

Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday’s are structured to allow fans and competitors to
work their day jobs, enjoy an evening of racing and fun, and be on their
way home at a reasonable hour. Pit gates open at 5:00pm while grandstands
open at 6:00pm each week, with racing action beginning at 7:00pm. Visit
Speedbowl.com (http://www.speedbowl.com) or contact track offices at 860.442.1585 for more
information and schedule of events.
