Friday, May 13, Spencer Speedway will open their gates for the 57th year. On tap is a test and tune session scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and close at dusk.

The season opener, a 100-lap Sunoco Race Fuels Modified event is set to take place on Friday, May 20, along with a full program of Super Stock, Super Six and Auto Value 4-Cylinder Scorpion racing. The modified race is the first in a series of races in the Spencer/Chemung/Holland Upstate NY Pro-Modified Challenge Series.

“Last year we held two test and tune sessions because we laid down new asphalt in the Fall of 2009. We then wanted to give the race teams a chance to adjust to the new surface,” stated promoter John White . “After they turned in some of the fastest times recorded under test and tune conditions, we felt only one session was needed this year.”

Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. , to allow competitors the opportunity to buy their NASCAR Licenses. Grandstand admission on the 13th will be free. This year fans who attend will be able to get the first glimpse at the new Super Stock division cars.

The race director Larry Steurrys will be on hand at the practice events to talk with the racers about season expectations. Racer will also have a chance to have their cars looked at by track inspectors. This practice will provide a chance for the competitors to see their competition for the first time in 2011 at the speedway.

Over the past few seasons times have been maintained during the practice sessions. Last year, with new asphalt laid down, thirty-eight cars were on hand representing five different classes. The Sunoco Modifieds saw 15 cars take times. Daryl Lewis Jr. was credited with the fast time in that division with a lap of 21.170 seconds, 85.025 mph. Four Race of Champion Tour cars were also on hand with Zach Shove turning in a lap of 20.591 seconds, 87.416 mph.

What kind of times can we expect in 2011? The 57th season of auto racing is about to begin at Spencer Speedway.

Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester , NY , along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson . Spencer Speedway is the local “ NASCAR Place to Race” for upstate New York . Points earned each week at Spencer are counted into the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship. Race time each Friday during the summer is at 7:30 p.m. sharp.
