$2,000 IN BONUS MONEY ON THE LINE FOR NASCAR HALL OF FAME 100 MAY 21ST AT RIVERHEAD RACEWAY
Jim Schaefer the Long Island racing enthusiast and school teacher is at it once again. This past week it was announced that through his efforts an extra $2,000 in bonus money will be up for grabs Saturday May 21st for the 2nd annual NASCAR Hall of Fame 100 at Barbara & Jim Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway. $1,000 will go to the winner of the century grind, with an additional $1,000 being awarded to the first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour regular across the line. The race pays $1,550 to win in purse money and if a WMT regular can win, as Ronnie Silk did in 2010, the payday will be a cool $3,550 for 25 mile of racing!
The 2010 NASCAR Hall of Fame 100 was a race that, for those who were on hand at Riverhead Raceway last year on May 15th, won't soon be forgotten. Silk, driving for Long Island car owners Ed & Connie Partridge in the TS Haulers Chevy, warded off the late race challenges of eventual 2010 Riverhead Raceway champion Tom Rogers Jr. The duo staged a fight for the win reminiscent of a Charlie Jarzombek and Richie Evans tussle at Riverhead, Islip Speedway or Freeport Stadium back in the day. Both drivers are expected to be on hand May 21st to renew acquaintances. Silk will again be the hired gun for the Partridge's, while Tom Rogers Jr., a rookie on the WMT, will wheel his new Riverhead Raceway ride for Joe Ambrose.
All the Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Modified stars will be going all out for the win in the NASCAR HoF 100, as the race is the first double point race of the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Among the locals hoping to pocket what would be a $2,550 payday are John Fortin, Dave Brigati, Bill Park, Timmy Solomito and his two brothers Shawn and Jerry, John Beatty Jr., Howie Brode, Eddie Brunnhoelzl III, Chris Young and many more.
With an off week for the NASCAR WMT some teams expected to enter are Richie Pallai Jr., Justin Bonsignore, Glenn Tyler, Ken Heagy and the Goodale brothers Kevin and Eric with all except Pallai calling Long Island home. It is also expected, but not yet confirmed that other top flight WMT teams will be on hand at Riverhead Raceway all hoping to collect the $3,550 winner's share of the purse.
"In all our years in racing we've never met anyone with the love and passion for NASCAR Modified racing as Jim Schaefer, he really is one of a kind". Barbara & Jim Cromarty noted. Once again this year the Cromarty's were on both the nominating committee for the NASCAR Hall of Fame and again will be part of the panel that selects the five inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Former nine time NASCAR National Modified champion, the late Richie Evans, for the third year in a row is on the list of 25 nominees, as is his fellow Rome, NY native and rival Jerry Cook, a six time NASCAR National Modified champion.
Time trials will determine the starting grid for the NASCAR Hall of Fame 100 at Riverhead Raceway and rounding out the race card are the Late Models, Chargers and Blunderbusts. Time trials for the NASCAR Modified will be at approximately 4:45 pm and feature event race is set for 5:30 pm.
