(LEHIGHTON, PA 5-14-11) For the third time in five weeks Mahoning Valley Speedway was forced to cancel its racing program due to inclement weather. There was a full slate of action on the card with all five track classes plus the season debut of the ATQMRA TQ Midgets set to compete.

Looking ahead to next Saturday night, May 21 will be the first of five 100-lap, $3000-to-win Modified features as Hand One of the Modified 100 Poker Series gets underway.

Included that night will be the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models plus the 4c Super Modifieds. Gates open at 4:00 pm with racing set to begin at 6:00.

The Modified drivers will run two lap time trials with the top 12 locked into the main event. All others will then contest in heats and a consolation in order to fill out the remaining starting spots.

At the end of each Poker Series race the top 13 finishers will receive a card all from the same suit starting with an ace going to the winner and so on. The winner will then draw a card to see what suit the race was run in that evening.

Additionally there are two 35-lap ‘wild card’ races in which drivers can utilize cards from those events to better their hand if need be. Thus far point leader Earl Paules leads the tournament with an Ace of Diamonds which he acquired two weeks ago in the first wild card event.

At the end of the final Poker race the top three drivers with the best hand will share in the $6000 jackpot. First place pays $2500 with $1500 for second and $1000 for third. This year the track will award $1000 to the driver with the ‘worst’ poker hand. You must compete in all five 100-lap races to be eligible for the poker money.

Also next Saturday the first 300 adult paying fans attending the races will receive a free general admission ticket to attend the June 11 Pocono ARCA 200, an 80-lap, 200-mile ARCA Series presented by Menards race. It is the lead-in event to the Pocono 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race the following day at the 2.5-mile Tricky Triangle. There will also be NASCAR Sprint Cup pole qualifying that takes place prior to the ARCA race.

Furthermore, Mahoning race fans will also be eligible to win free Terrace Grandstand race day tickets to the June 12 Pocono 500.

Coming up in two weeks on Saturday, May 28 it will be another 100-lap run only this time for the Street Stocks racing in the Gene Bowers Memorial 100 paying $1000-to-win. Lap sponsorship is available for this event by contacting the track office.

Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
