Tough Choices in Restarts Challenge Competitors

The GMAC Insurance Modified Series drivers had their work cut out for them on Saturday. The lineup for
the Kevin Powell Motorsports 100 was decided by random draw – and added to the mix were the double-file “choice” restarts.

Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, who was leading the points entering the event, drew 22nd as his starting position. Jonathan Brown of Winston-
Salem, who was tied with Myers for the points lead entering the event, drew 12th as his starting spot.

With only 100 laps to make their way to the front, Myers and Brown banged fenders and powered furiously through the pack. The racing
quickly turned into a family feud as brothers Burt and Jason Myers tangled lap by lap with brothers Jonathan and Joseph Brown.

But the most crucial moments in the race occurred under caution: when the drivers had to commit to the inside or outside lane during
double-file restarts. “We had a pretty good car tonight,” said Jonathan Brown. “We just got messed up on the restarts. I kept getting in the line
that wouldn’t go.”

“It’s a crapshoot,” said Burt Myers. “The times you think you should go outside, you should’ve gone inside. When you go inside, you
should’ve gone outside. The only thing you can do is just aim it and hope it lands right.”

Brian Loftin of Lexington, on the other hand, felt pleased with his lane choices. “I think on every restart we went forward. I love going
to the outside,” said Loftin, who fought his way up from starting 17th to finishing 2nd.

Loftin applied the pressure to race leader John Smith of Mount Airy, especially during the later laps when the two encountered slower,
lapped traffic.

Burt Myers ended up finishing fourth, keeping him in the points lead. Although Loftin was unable to claim the win, the performance
rockets him up to tie Myers for the top spot on the points ladder. Jonathan Brown slips down to third, John Smith stays fourth in the points, and
Jason Myers drops to fifth.

In the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series, Tommy Neal of Walkertown strengthens his points lead, with Bryant Robertson of Lexington
jumping up from sixth to second in the points. Defending Champion Kyle Edwards of King moves up to third, while Luke Fleming of Mount Airy slips
down to fourth.

Darren Cotner of King won the USG Street Stock 50 in last event, boosting him from fourth up to third in the points rankings for the
104.1 WTQR Street Stock Series. John McNeal of Winston-Salem barely hangs onto the points lead, with Matt Cotner of Rural Hall moving to only two
points behind McNeal.

In the Freeman’s Auto Center Stadium Stock Series, Jordan Fleming of Mount Airy moves into the points lead with a win in the second race.
Chuck Wall’s win in the first race moves him up to second in the points.

This Saturday is the Whelen Sportsman 100, the longest and most prestigious race of the season for the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman
Series. The Modifieds will battle in twin 25-lappers, the Street Stock will have a 20-lap race, and the Stadium Stock Division will race in two
15-lappers. And every race will be worth double the normal points!

Gates open at 6:00 for practice, qualifying begins at 7:00, and the first race begins at 8:00 PM – this Saturday night. Ticket prices,
directions, and more information can be found online at www.bowmangrayracing.com (http://www.bowmangrayracing.com) or by calling (336) 723-1819.
