Round number three of the Mountain Madness Enduro Series kicked off Sunday at Mountain speedway. In conjunction with the enduro show, the INEX Legends were added to the afternoon of excitement at the track. With a fast car all afternoon, TJ Kapish of Mountaintop took top honors in the 6/8-Cylinder division and Mike Harding of Wagontown pulled out his first career win in the 4-Cylinder class. Scott Hubler of Coplay drove to his second victory of the season in the INEX Legends division.

David Chapman started from the pole position and led the opening circuits of the 20-lap INEX Legends feature over Stephen Hershey, Raven Schrantz, Andrew Stotler and Brandon DeBrakeleer.

DeBrakeleer wasted no time and moved up to third before gluing himself to R. Schrantz, who held the second spot. He then pushed R. Schrantz to the lead momentarily before taking command himself.

Chris Young cracked the top five and climbed to second. R. Schrantz held third with Kevin Nowak and Scott Hubler in tow when the caution flag flew with 15 laps remaining. The caution, which was the only one of the event, came out for Hershey, who had stopped on the racing surface with mechanical woes.

Green flag racing resumed and Nowak and Hubler shot by R. Schrantz. The top four leaders ran side by side and nose to tail until Young took the lead on lap seven. Hubler climbed to second and then took the top spot on lap nine.

Hubler continued to lead at halfway. Meanwhile, Nowak moved into second.

Despite the efforts of the drivers behind him over the final laps, Hubler took the checkered flag to win the feature event for the second time this season. Nowak finished second, followed by DeBrakeleer, Young and Stotler.

Heat race victories went to Scott Hubler and Brandon DeBrakeleer.
Dominic Ranieri started on the pole position and led over Dan Pawlicki, TJ Kapish, Bill Schwenck and Tom Szoke when a lap was complete in the 100-lap 6/8-Cylinder enduro.

It didn’t take long for Kapish to move into the second spot, as he did in the early going. Meanwhile, Szoke moved up to the third spot and Rob McCormick cracked the top five.

McCormick overtook Kapish for second on lap 19 and then raced Ranieri hard before taking command of the event on lap 28. Kapish worked into the second spot and then he took the race lead on lap 37.

The top three drivers ran nose to tail for many laps before McCormick had his chance to lead once more, this time on lap 49. His lead was short-lived, as Kapish took it back once more.

Mechanical troubles struck McCormick with 25 laps remaining and he was taken from the win equation, and Shaun Burd, who had worked into the top five earlier, moved into the fourth spot, along with Steve Fabb.

Kapish put distance on Ranieri in the closing laps and went on to take his first win of the season and second of his career. Ranieri settled for second, followed by Burd, Szoke and Fabb.

Larry Spencer III led the 4-Cylinder enduro field to the drop of the green flag before being overtaken by Sue Ryan for the lead. Ryan led the first lap, just ahead of Spencer, Bill Rice, Pete Verwys and Mike Harding. Ironically, Verwys, who had started in the eighteenth spot, picked up fourteen positions in a single lap.

Verwys drove to second and then a tangle with he and Ryan helped Rice take the lead on the second circuit. Harding figure that is was his turn to lead and he took command of the show on lap eight. At that point and time, Spencer ran second, followed by Tony Rispin, Robert Fink and Ken Harper.

Harding continued to lead until Verwys made his way back through the field to take command lead on lap 30. Harding fought back and regained the top spot on the following circuit when Ryan got spun and collected Verwys.

Rispin worked to the front and had his chance to lead on lap 36 before Verwys retook the lead on lap 38.

Following contact with a lapped car, the transmission broke on Spencer’s machine and he was forced to the infield on lap 45 after a great run.

Harding climbed back to the front just past halfway. He led over Rispin, Harper, Bruce Miller and Rice. Shortly after, Verwys headed to the pits with mechanical problems.

Harding opened up a straightaway advantage over his competition over the closing laps and went on to take his first career victory over Harper. Miller finished a career-best third, followed by Rispin and Rice.
