Just as the pit gates swung open Saturday afternoon at Riverhead Raceway for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program a light drizzle moved over the track. That drizzle quickly became a full fledged rain that forced promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty to call off the night's racing. The rain- out forces some schedule changes over the next two weeks of racing.

The 30-lap Blunderbust event that was washed out Saturday will now move to this week June 18th, the race is a double point event that will feature time trial qualifying. The Blunderbusts, who last raced on May 21st, will join the NASCAR Modifieds, Figure Eights, Chargers, Legend Race Cars, Grand Enduro and an 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby on Whelen Event Night. Whelen Engineering is the title sponsor of the nationwide NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and is celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2011, with Barbara & Jim Cromarty at both Islip Speedway and Riverhead Raceway part of the series since its inception.

Qualifying for this Saturday night will include two Legend Race Car heats and time trials for the Blunderbusts and will start at 5:00 pm, with feature racing to go green at 6:00 pm.

The 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro that also fell victim to Mother Nature Saturday will be made up on Saturday evening June 25th, which is J&R'S Steak House night for the Late Models who'll run a 50-lap main event that night.

Two schedule additions also were announced that have no connection to Saturday's rain-out. The Legend Race Cars have been added to the June 25th program, that addition was made prior to the rain out Saturday night. To date in 2011 over 30 Legends have turned out weekly at the quarter mile oval.

On Friday it was decided that the Super Pro Trucks will be added to the I Love America night Fireworks show on Saturday August 20th, joining the NASCAR Modifieds, Figure Eights, Chargers, Legend Race Cars and a 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby. A free Amusement Ride for the children will also be part of the Donaldsons VW-Subaru night festivities that will conclude with a 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby.
