Four out of Five Inductees Have Connections with the Legendary Track
The 2012 Class of Inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame was announced yesterday. And not surprisingly,
Bowman Gray Stadium shows up again as an integral staging ground for NASCAR history.
Out of the seven drivers inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010 and 2011, five of them have been winners at Bowman Gray Stadium.
Junior Johnson, Lee Petty, Bobby Allison, David Pearson, and Richard Petty all claimed the checkered at the historic quarter mile.
In fact, Richard Petty’s landmark 100th win took place at the Stadium on August 22, 1969. On that night, Crew Chief Dale Inman was
leading Petty to victory back in the pits. Inman served as Petty’s crew chief for nearly two decades, amassing statistics that no other crew
chief can match. Inman will be one of the five legends inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012.
Cale Yarborough will also become a Hall of Famer in 2012. Yarborough cut his teeth racing at the Stadium in the formative years of his
career. He racked up three top-10 finishes in 1965 and 1966 in races won by Richard Petty and David Pearson.
With Bowman Gray Stadium being known as the Home of the Hot Modifieds, it’s no surprise that Richie Evans, another 2012 inductee,
competed at the Stadium. Claiming the checkered in 1979 and 1980 at the legendary quarter mile, Evans is known as one of the best Modified
drivers to have ever lived.
Most notable for his connections with the Stadium is 2012 Inductee Glen Wood. Before anchoring the Wood Brothers racing team, Glen was a
four-time winner at Bowman Gray Stadium. His mechanical ingenuity led him to a 1954 and 1961 championship at the Stadium.

longest running weekly race track, history continues to show that there is no other place quite like the Madhouse.
