First off, this post is not ALL bad, in fact it's got some great news too!
But, first and foremost, we have a problem that MUST be corrected ASAP...and it falls on you the drivers.
I had a report that one of the drivers smelled of alcohol/beer Saturday night before he went out on the track. I wasn't able to personally confirm it, but the report came from two VERY RELIABLE sources. So....this falls on you all. Do we have to breathalyze our events? Do I need to have my corner flagger hold out the breathalyzer when cars are entering the infield for staging? I hope to not have to do this....
I can tell you all for a fact though, the driver who was reported to me will be contacted about this and possibly suspended for the remainder of this racing season. As for future offenses, drivers will be immediately removed from the pits and all points will be stripped for the entire season...suspension of all remaining races will also be put against the driver.
This is serious, I'm taking it serious and you will have to as well. If Big Daddy brings a cooler full of beer to the races and Coach is drunk on the track...both of them will be penalized as noted above. This is not going to be a slap-on-the-wrist penalty... That being said, Big Daddy, you are still allowed to drink your "BEER" in the pits...."ROOT BEER"!
Drivers who report someone drinking will be rewarded....you're not getting a $5,000 reward, but I will offer up a free registration for the event or next event....that's $65 worth of beer that you can drink all night long after the races are done!
Now, for some good news....we received official word that the transponder loop has been fixed. I even noted that it may still be broken and I was re-assured that it was "RECENTLY" repaired. As you may have noticed, there were no tires on the low side of the track on the June 5th race.....and they were not there Saturday night.
For now, we are going to assume that the transponder system is 100% and we will NOT HAND-SCORE this next event....
Now, it is a lot easier to re-check possible computer errors by comparing hand-scored sheets to the printed results, however I'm going to put up a poll....to continue both hand-scoring and transponder scoring....or just use the transponders....
I'm fine with either decision, however if the transponders are working 100%, there should be NO reason to have to hand-score...it'll only lead to cheating and dishonesty...
