(LEHIGHTON, PA 6-28-11) This coming Saturday night, July 2 Mahoning Valley Speedway will be dealing out another round of cards for Hand 3 of the Modified 100 Poker Series and considering that just two weeks ago a wild shootout took place amongst the top three players, or drivers Matt Hirschman, Earl Paules and Anthony Sesely all going for the win in the 100-lap main, indications are that this week’s stakes will be extremely high.
Hirschman amazingly came away the victory in that June 18 race thanks to a last lap, last turn tangle between Paules and Sesely.
While that race is still fresh on everyone’s mind from the spectacular finish, fans and drivers are now anticipating another memorable Mahoning 100 lap run. Modified drivers yearn to win one while fans flock to watch them.
Hirschman’s win was the sixth of his career and the list of those who have also notched Mahoning 100-lappers reads like an exclusive All Star line-up. Eric Beers, Paules, Don Wagner, John Bennett, Chip Santee, Bobby Jones, Brian DeFebo, Mike Quinn, Lou Strohl, Kory Rabenold, Rusty Smith and Scott Ritter.
Aside from the $3000 first place prize money, at the end of each Poker Race the top 13 finishers will receive a card all from the same suit starting with an ace going to the winner and so on. Either clubs, spades, hearts or diamonds will be picked at the end of each feature by the winner who will draw a card to see what suit the race was run in that evening.
At the end of the final Poker race the top three drivers with the best hand will share in the $6000 jackpot. First place pays $2500 with $1500 for second and $1000 for third. The driver with the worst poker hand will receive $1000.
Currently Tyler Haydt leads the tournament with a pair of Kings. Hirschman has two Queens, Bennett a pair of 9’s and Matt Higgins a pair of 4’s. Paules has an Ace, King and 10.
Eligible drivers must partake in all five 100 lap features in order to have a stake in the ante.
Time trials, which start at 6:00 p.m., will lock in the top-12 while all others will then race their way into the field via heats.
Also on the docket will be Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models.
Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
