While on a mission Saturday evening, Bobby Jones of Palmerton, PA took the lead from Dave Schneider on a lap 12 restart and went on to take his third Modified feature win of the season at Mountain Speedway. Chip Wanamaker of Walnutport, PA held off Steve Shultz to score his third Street Stock feature win of the year and Justin Hughes of West Pittston, PA scored his first career FWD feature win in the 30-lap double points event during “Summer Racefest”.

After winning one of two Modified heat races earlier in the evening, Dave Schneider started on the pole position for the 40-lap main event. He led the opening lap over fellow heat winner, Ken Vogel, Jr. Nick Pecko held third, followed by Kyle Ebersole and Bobby Jones.

Pecko got by Vogel for the second spot in the early going and then lost the spot to Jones, who clawed his way toward the front. Ebersole followed by Pecko and moved into third on the following lap.

With Schneider still in command over Jones, the caution flag flew on lap 12 when a flume of smoke poured from under the hood of Allen Creveling’s car. Green flag racing resumed and with a terrific restart, Jones took the lead.

Making his first start of the season, Roger Heffelfinger moved into fifth on lap 15 and then spun off of turn two, which brought out the second caution. Jones still had the lead at that point with Ebersole, Schneider, Pecko and Vogel in tow.

Despite several attempts by Ebersole to grab the race lead, Jones eventually put some distance on his competition and padded his points lead as he drove away with his third feature win of the season over Ebersole, Vogel, Pecko and Schneider.

Mitch Hawk started from the pole and led Mike Garris, Sr., Steve Shultz, Sam Danaher and Chip Wanamaker across the stripe to complete the first circuit of the 25-lap Street Stock feature before the yellow flag waved when Sam Grow spun in turn two.

Green flag racing resumed and Brian Wozniak overtook Danaher for the fifth spot. Meanwhile, Shultz and Wanamaker battled with Garris for second and the both got by to take second and third respectively on lap three.

With Hawk still in command, Wanamaker battled with Shultz and eventually overtook him for second. He then grabbed the race lead from Hawk and Shultz followed to second on the ninth lap.

The final of four yellow flags waved when Jeff McGrath spun on the backstretch on lap 21, which set up a four-lap shootout for the leaders.

Despite pressure from Shultz, Wanamaker held his line and drove away with his third victory of the season over Shultz, Wozniak, Garris and Hawk. Wanamaker continues to lead the division points standings.

Heat race wins went to Sam Danaher and Chip Wanamaker.

Pete Verwys led a field of FWD drivers to the drop of the green flag in the 30-lap double points feature and led the opening lap over Justin Hughes, Trevor Ahouse, Cody Roth and Eric Banashefski.

Like Rambo on the enemy, Hughes hounded Verwys for the lead, which he took on the third circuit. Meanwhile, Banashefski overtook Roth for the fourth spot and Dan Freundt held fifth.

While glued to the back bumper of Verwys in the early going, Ahouse found his way around Verwys for second by the halfway point and Banashefski climbed to third as the battle raged on between Roth, Verwys and Freundt. At this point in the event, Hughes had a straightaway advantage over Ahouse.

Solidly in second, Ahouse closed in on the leader and ran out of time, as Hughes took his first career victory. Ahouse finished a career-best second, followed by Roth, Freundt and Verwys.

Points leader, Banashefski, was in the top five on the final lap and his car jumped out of gear just before the stripe. Track announcer, Larry Spencer III, made his FWD debut and finished eleventh, making him the first announcer at Mountain Speedway to jump from the booth to behind the wheel of a racecar in one of the track’s regular divisions.

Heat race wins went to Eric Banashefski and Justin Hughes.
