Wall Stadium will celebrate both the stock car racing stars of today and the champions of seasons past this Saturday night as it presents “Salute the Champions Night.” Over 50 past champions, from as far back as 1957, will be on hand to great fans, sign autographs and relive cherished racing memories. The past champions will be introduced at 6:45 p.m. and racing will start immediately thereafter.

Expected to lead the gathering of past champions are the speedway’s only eight time driving kings, Gil Hearne of New Egypt, Manahawkin’s Dave Michel and defending Modified champion Chas Okerson of Freehold. Every stock car division that has competed at the oval will be represented.

The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club has worked hard to help put this event together, with great effort put forth by president and former driving champion Ray Shea of Brick.

After being added to the night’s agenda, the open wheel Modifieds will lead the way in a 40-lap main event. In addition to the Modifieds, the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars will be in the spotlight with “Twin 25” lap main events on the schedule. The United Crane Factory Stocks, the INEX Legend Cars and the Street Stocks will also each compete in a 25-lap main event. Qualifying races are also planned.

With no paid practice scheduled, Saturday’s slate will see the competitor pit area opening at 4:00 p.m., with a regular practice session then running from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m., while Sportsman time trial qualifying is set for 6:30 p.m. to be followed by the introduction of past champions. The past champions will be available before and after introductions to meet with fans, sign autographs and relive racing memories.

Qualifying heat races will then begin at 7:00 p.m. to be followed by feature race action for all five divisions.

Wall Stadium Speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
