St. Johns, PA- On the same Saturday night of celebration for 50 years of marital bliss between Mountain Speedway Promoter, Joe Callavini and his wife Dorothy, Dave Brigati of Long Island, NY and his crew celebrated in victory lane after winning the Sport Modified victory at the speedway. Also from Long Island, NY, Kyle Harvell took the lead on the opening lap of the Late Model feature and held off rival Craig Lutz to score his first career win in the division and Matt Schlenker of Walnutport came out the victor in the Factory Stock division following a three-wide pass on the final lap.

Chip Wanamaker started from the pole position and led the first circuit of the 40-lap Sport Modified feature over Barry Callavini, Paul Frantz, Nick Pecko and Pat Verwys until the caution flag waved when Joe Wielgosz spun in turn two. Green flag racing resumed and Callavini overtook Wanamaker for the top spot. Meanwhile, Pecko overtook Frantz for third.

With Callavini still in command by inches over Wanamaker, Dave Brigati got by Kevin Orlando for the fourth spot on lap 14. Eight laps later he overtook Pecko.

Callavini’s car began to fade and Wanamaker fought hard for the lead. However, Brigati took the second spot from Wanamaker on lap 26 in turn one. He then shot by Callavini on the same lap for the lead in turn four before the yellow and then red flags waved two circuits later when Dean Ficarro’s engine expired and then caught fire.

The green flag came back out but a quick yellow followed when Orlando spun in turn three. Several other drivers were collected in the incident, including Todd Geist, Geary Rinehimer and Frantz.

Green flag racing resumed with Brigati still in command. Wanamaker in second, followed by Callavini, Pecko and Mike Skarbowski. Will Schneider ran sixth and was overtaken by Jason Hearn for the position following the restart.

Brigati began to put some distance on second and with seven laps remaining, Skarbowski grabbed the fourth spot from Callavini.

Untouchable, Brigati drove off to take the checkered flag for the second time this season. Wanamaker finished in the second spot, followed by Pecko, Skarbowski and Hearne.

Chip Wanamaker and Dave Brigati were heat race winners.

Jerry Tunney led his fellow Late Model drivers to the drop of the green flag in the 50-lap, double points event. Tunney didn’t seem to get up to speed quick enough on the start and the field began to stack up behind him. The end result was Kyle Harvell as the race leader and a caution for debris on the first lap. Adam Cox ran second to the leader, followed by Craig Lutz, Travis Fisher and Francis Gross III.

Green flag racing resumed and both Lutz and Fisher overtook Cox. They battled with each other before Fisher grabbed second on lap three. Meanwhile, Gross took the fourth spot from Cox on lap four.

The yellow flag waved on lap five when the engine expired on Tunney’s car. Fisher tried to make a move for the lead on Harvell following the restart, but once again, the leader began to pull away.

Fisher, Harvell and Gross viciously battled for second and then Lutz finally made the pass for second with nine laps remaining. With Harvell still scored as the leader, Lutz began to close the gap.

Fisher tried to hold on to third and then lost the spot to Gross with six laps remaining. Meanwhile, Lutz climbed to within two car lengths of Harvell, but there wasn’t enough time to battle, as Harvell captured his first career Late Model victory. Lutz settled for second, followed by Gross, who finished a season best in third. Fisher ended up fourth, followed by Cox.

Heat race victories went to Craig Lutz and Travis Fisher.

In only his second Factory Stock start of the season, Paul Morgan, Sr. started from the pole in the 20-lap feature. Jeff Searfoss took the race lead before a lap was completed, but Morgan retook the top spot on the following circuit. Matt Schlenker followed through to take second and with three laps complete, Searfoss ran third, followed by Rich Paciotti and Chris Parry.

Schlenker stayed glued to the back bumper of the leader over the first half of the event before Searfoss gave the outside lane a try. Lap after lap, both he and Schlenker battled for second while Morgan continued with the lead, heading toward his first victory.

Not far behind the top three, Chris Parry, Paciotti and Joey Barbush battled for the fourth position.

Searfoss cleared Schlenker for second with four laps remaining and it appeared that Morgan was on his way to victory lane, but that all went by the wayside on the final lap when Searfoss battled side-by-side with the leader as they entered turn one. Schlenker saw an opening and joined the mix, making it three-wide.

The trio made contact and all three drivers held on to the handle of their cars. Somehow, Schlenker came out with the victory. In a hard-fought battle, Morgan and Searfoss tangled coming to the checkers, with Morgan finishing a career best second. Searfoss ended up third, followed by Paciotti and Parry.

The victory marks the third of the season for Schlenker.

Heat race wins went to Paul Morgan, Sr. and Chris Parry.
