Williamson’s own Mike Leaty picked up the 35-lap N ASCA R Sunoco Modified feature victory last Friday at Spencer Speedway. Leaty, who took over as the leader on lap three, from Ryan Beeman, stated,” Kevin Timmerman and I have been discussing these features races. We both agree it’s the guy who gets in the lead first that seems to be able to hold on to victory.”

The Modified feature was also a Graff Trucking/Sunoco Race Fuels NASCAR Upstate Pro-Modified Challenge Series race.

In the Super Stock division, Jim Steffenhagen Jr.’s win streak came to an end when Jim was unable to attend due to the death of his mother, Carrie Lynn Young. Kris Hillegeer, also from Williamson, was able to take home the 20-lap victory. Just the week before Hillegeer limped into the pits at the back of a two truck after tearing off his right front suspension.

In Super Six action Tim Faro tried to make it two wins in a row, but just fell short by half a car length at the finish line to Honeoye Falls ’s Bill Hallett. Hallett has not been able to complete a race all year due to mechanical failures until last Friday.

Alison Knoepfler kept the pride of the female drivers at Spencer in tact, as she took home the 15-lap feature win in the four cylinder Auto Value Scorpion division. Knoepfler, who shed tears of joy in victory lane reacted as most first time winners do,” I am just so excited I just don’t know what to say.”

The popular Legend Cars were back with new comer Jake Vernon, from Hamburg , NY , taking the 20-lap victory.

Andy Lewis grabbed the lead at the start of the 35-lap Sunoco Modified feature, as the front four rows raced side-by-side for two laps. It was Ryan Beeman inching out the lead on lap two, just before the yellow flew when Chris Finocchario and Lewis came together in the first turn resulting in Lewis looping out in front of the field.

The restart saw Mike Leaty take the lead with Beeman running second. Kevin Timmerman made his move on Beeman to grab second on lap six before the yellow flew for a second time for a spin out by Toad Bradshaw in the second turn.

The restart saw the red displayed for nearly seven minutes when Bobby Lippa Jr. and Lewis locked bumpers as they came down to take green.

Once underway, it was Leaty and Timmerman breaking away from the field with Ed die Hawkins holding down third over Amy Catalano and Beeman. The running order would remain this way until lap 31 when Amy looped out entering the first turn. This spin would cost her the points lead at the track as double points were on the line in all divisions.

Leaty held on for his second win of the season with Timmerman a close second. Hawkins, Chris Finocchario and Beeman rounded out the top five finishers.

“I regret clanging wheels with Kevin once,” stated Leaty. “We got a great restart and that was what matters.” He then added, ”My crew’s hard work makes me look good out here.”

The Super Stock race saw Kris Hillegeer immediately take the lead from his pole starting position. He then proceeded to pull away from the field once Mitchell Wright slipped on in the first turn on lap five. The slip-up by Wright moved him back to fifth and Brian Gordon in second.

The yellow flew on lap 15 when Jeff Parent and Wright came together exiting the fourth turn and made contact with the front stretch wall. Parent’s car was too damaged to continue. Wright made a pit stop and return to the back of the pack for the restart.

Hillegeer held on for the victory followed by Gordon, Tom Catalano in a Street Stock, Tom Fecteau and Wright. The win projected Hillegeer into the track points led, with Steffenhagen falling back to third.

In Super Six action Brian Hallett led the way leading all 20 circuits. The yellow had to be brought out just once when Ryan Hillegeer made contact with the back stretch wall and had to be towed back to the pits.

Up front Tim Faro made repeated charges at Hallett. It has been Hallett’s luck to break every time this year during the feature race. Faro was putting the pressure on and hoping Hallett’s luck would run out again.

This time Hallett held on as Faro mad a final charge out of turn four falling short by just a half car length at the finish line. Chris Andolino, Brandon Allen and Van Grant rounded out the top five finishers.

“I was holding on for dear life as this car got really tight at the end,” commented an elated Hallett in victory lane.

In Four Cylinder Auto Value Scorpion action Alison Knoepfler used a lap two restart to her advantage. She blasted away from the pack and drew out a very respectable lead over the rest of the field to earn he first feature win.

To the delight of the crowd this former Sodus Microd Club member held on for the victory. Mike Bradshaw, Kevin Bertolone, Zach Willis and Otis Bradshaw rounded out the top five finishers.

The Legend Cars were on hand for the third time in 2011. Brett Coon led the first two laps before the yellow flew, when Bryce Norton slammed the front stretch wall.

The restart saw newcomer Jake Vernon take the lead and then pull away to a five car advantage over second place Brad Salatino. The yellow flew once more, lap 15, when Jeff Decker spun in the fourth turn and Charlie Neumann spun on the front chute exiting the fourth turn.

Vernon held on for the victory, his third one of the year in this division. Salatino finished second followed by Carl Vilardo IV, Brandon DeBrakeleer and Coon.

“Yeah, we had a good car here tonight,” stated Vernon in victory lane.
