(LEHIGHTON, PA 7-24-11) After taking this past weekend off in order that teams and fans can attend the 61st Sunoco Race of Champions, Mahoning Valley Speedway will return to action this coming Saturday night, July 30 with a full slate of asphalt racing at the Lehighton quarter mile oval.
On the card will be regular feature events for the Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models with the addition of the Micro Stocks. Race time is 6:00 pm.
This will also mark the official start of the second half of the 2011 season as 10 race nights have been run with exactly 10 more to go.
Heading into this week’s show Tyler Haydt maintains the point lead in the Modified class over three-time and defending champ John Bennett. Haydt has notched three wins including a Poker Series 100-lapper while Bennett is the most recent winner and is only 23 point behind.
15-year old Austin Kochenash won his division leading third Late Model race when the track last raced on July 16 and has held the point lead since Opening Night. Kochenash was running at Oswego this past Sunday in the RoC Late Model event.
The Street Stocks have a very tight battle going on as TJ Gursky, who has been number one in points since week one, has now been joined by top rookie Kevin Smith atop the standings with a slew of others nipping very close behind.
Kris Graver, a rookie with the Dirt Mods, has been holding steady as the point man with the class thanks to 9 top five finishes and four wins over the first 10 races.
Barry Christman, Jr., has been the man to beat all season long with the Pro4 Late Models as he has dominated the year so far with seven wins including five in a row.
In two weeks, August 6, the 4c Super Modifieds are back at Mahoning and on August 13 the blistering fast ATQMRA Midgets will be holding a pair of twin-20 lap feature races.
On August 20 the Poker Series is returns with Hand 4 of the Modified 100 as another $3000-to-win showdown takes place.
Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
