LATE MODELS CANCELLED; MIDGETS AND FACTORY STOCKS READY FOR BIG RACES SATURDAY (JULY 30) AT WALL STADIUM

Even though officials were forced to cancel Saturday evening’s 40-lap Late Model stock car feature race late on Thursday afternoon, a big schedule of stock car and open wheel Midget car racing is set for the shore speedway for Saturday night (July 30). Heading the card will be the “Tony Romit Memorial” championship race for the TQ Midgets and Twin 25 lap features for the Factory Stocks. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and racing will start at 7:00 p.m.

“We were really looking forward to the Late Model race and up until this morning (Thursday) we had every indication that a full field would be entered,” speedway operator Cliff Krause said. “The we learned this morning from the organizer that far from a full field would be on hand.

“Because of that, we had no other choice than to cancel that race. I’m still very excited about the evening of racing we have on tap. We have a lot of divisions and a couple of extra important races set for the fans.”

Saturday night should still be an exciting evening of action, as the touring Midgets of the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association will join many of Wall Stadium Speedway’s stock car divisions for a gigantic racing program. The open cockpit TQ Midgets, perhaps the fastest cars that race at the speedway, are set to honor one of their best and most admired drivers ever by competing in the “Tony Romit Memorial.”

The United Crane Factory Stocks will also be in the spotlight in Twin 25 lap main events. Seven-time winner Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach is expected to be in the field, but will see plenty of competition from the likes of Todd Pilla of Beachwood, Steve Lynch of Aberdeen and Howell’s Steve West, just to name a few.

Also on the Saturday night card will be the Microstocks in the “Jack Bellinato Memorial”, Sportsman cars and Legend Cars. The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will also be on hand.

“Pirate Night” festivities will feature a scavenger hunt for the kids that will be presented throughout the evening.

Pit gates will open at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, with a paid practice session set for 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Regular practice will be up next and grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. The first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
