Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach and Howell’s Steve West stood proud in the winner’s circle Saturday night at Wall Stadium Speedway as each took down wins in “Twin 25” lap main events for the United Crane Factory Stocks.

In the first 25-lapper Todd Pilla of Beachwood and Downey wrestled for the lead early before Pilla slowed with mechanical trouble and Downey raced off in the lead. Downey then continued out front, while seven-time winner Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach and Troy Gant of Brick closed in. The final laps were thrilling as the trio diced for the lead before Downey grabbed the win by a fender over Mongeau and Gant. Rick Siddons of Beachwood and Brick’s Ronnie Mullen completed the top five.

In the Factory Stock nightcap, Marty Van Druten of Toms River led early before West throttled to the front on lap seven. West then appeared to have the race well in hand until a lap 23 tangle slowed the action and bunched the leaders. On the ensuing restart West was still the leader, but Mongeau was again there to challenge. Still, West beat Mongeau to the line, with John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant, Richard Petey of Hackettstown and Robert St. Hilaire of Pt. Pleasant wrapping up the top five.

The companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars saw Eric Mauriello of Howell take the lead near halfway and then race on to his third win of the campaign. Defending champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck was second, with Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Charlie Kremer III of Toms River and Brick’s Joe Mongeau finishing third through fifth.

Zach Alspach of Willingboro raced from fifth on the grid to win the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Alspach took the lead with ten laps in and then led Dan Roslin of Egg Harbor Township, Toms River’s Derek Hopkinson, Howell’s Robert French and Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan to the finish line.

Buddy Sloed, Jr. made his first ever Wall Stadium win a big one as he captured the prestigious “Tony Romit Memorial” over a fast closing Joey Payne. Ryan Tidman, Alison Cumens and Matt Janisch were third through fifth.

Tom Ervin won the “Jack Bellinato Memorial” for the visiting World Formula Tour Microstocks.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday night (August 6) with four divisions of racing action. On the card will be the Modified stock cars in a 40-lap main event, while the Sportsman cars, Street Stocks and Factory Stocks battle in 25-lappers. The INEX Legend Cars have the night off.

Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday; with regular practice starting at 5:00 p.m. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Fans are reminded that if they wear a wristband from any area beach to the track on Saturday night, they will receive a discount at the ticket window.
