ATLANTIC CITY, NJ , August 12, 2011 . . . When Indoor Auto Racing returns to Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall for the tenth year on Friday and Saturday,
February 3 and 4, 2012, the fans will hear a difference.
In an attempt to reduce the noise level on the headline Three-Quarter
Midget race cars, officials will be requiring they use a specific
muffler.
“We’ve worked hard over the years to insure the air quality was
acceptable to our fans,” said promoter Len Sammons. “Now we’re
focusing on the noise level so everyone can better enjoy the exciting
racing.”
Each racer will be required to run the same steel 600/1000cc muffler
sold by Beyea Headers for the retail cost of $100. No tampering with
or modifying the muffler in any way will be allowed. The mufflers
will be available through Beyea starting August 15. The business can
be reached at (315)-497-1215 and www.beyeaheaders.com.
Beyea is also contributing $500 to the Len Sammons Jr. Memorial TQ
Midget Point Fund, a combined point series between the Atlantic City
Gambler's Classic and March's Coffee Cup event at the Dunkin' Donuts
Center in Providence, R.I.
The 600cc Micro-Sprints will return for the second consecutive year to
Boardwalk Hall, with their own program. Last year’s inaugural event
was won by Jimmy Carpenter.
This year, however, the 600cc Micro-Sprints, built for dirt, will run
a 20-lap feature on both Friday and Saturday night.
Rules for the 600cc Micro-Sprint race will remain the same as last
year with the exception that all cars must have straight front axles.
No independent front suspension will be permitted. Only one anti-
rollbar will be permitted.
Any Micro-Sprint that enters the 600cc event can not also be used in
the TQ-Midget races. In 2012, however, a driver can compete in both
divisions.
The Champ Kart and Slingshot divisions will also be included in the
exciting Alantic City race weekend. Racing will begin on Friday night
at 7:30 p.m.. and at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Each night will include qualifying races and a feature event for the
headline division.
Tickets for the Atlantic City event will go on sale on Wednesday,
August 17, at Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com and
at the Boardwalk Hall box office. Ticket prices remain the same as the
past event. Premium seats sell-out quickly.
Tickets and further information can also be obtained by calling the
show office (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at 609-888-3618.
