(LEHIGHTON, PA 8-15-11) The wildly popular Mahoning Valley Speedway Poker Series returns to action this coming Saturday night, August 20 with Hand 4 of the Modified 100 Poker Series. It will be another 100-lap, $3000-to-win feature that is sure to deal out plenty of close racing which has become the standard in all previous events.

Given the fact that the past two weeks at the paved Lehighton quarter mile have fallen to rain, drivers will be anxious to get back on track and what better way to reacquaint the competition than with a 100-lap showdown.

After the first three century runs Matt Hirschman is holding the best poker hand with three Queens. He also has an Ace thanks to a win on June 18 in a thrilling last lap, last turn pass over Earl Paules and Anthony Sesely. Hirschman has won six of the last ten 100 lap races.

Current class point leader Tyler Haydt is the most recent Poker Series winner on July 2. He and Paules each have a pair of Kings. John Bennett, who is just nine points behind Haydt in the standings, is next with a pair of 9’s. Also showing pairs are Terry Markovic, 7’s and Matt Higgins, 4’s. Don Wagner won Hand 1 on May 21.

Other drivers still in the game and looking to grab a share of the $5000 overall Poker Series jackpot include defending series champ John Markovic, Chip Santee, Joe Mooney and Mike Carroll, Jr.

While those players will be trying to better their hands there will be a solid host of hot shoes looking to go for the $3000 cash prize as well. It all equates to some of the most outstanding pavement short track racing in the business.

Time trials will again be used to set the top dozen while heats will be utilized for all others.

Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods, Pro4 Late Models and Micro Stocks are also on the card.

Grandstand gates open at 4:00 p.m. with racing set to begin at 6:00 p.m.

On August 27 there will be a 35-lap ‘Wild Card’ feature for the Poker Series. The deciding Poker Series race is slated for the season finale on October 1.

All rain checks from last week, August 13, will be honored at face value for any remaining event this season and you must also show your issued wrist band that you received at the front gate.

Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
