The August 25th race schedule at the Thompson International Speedway was cancelled today due to the forecast of thunder storms and heavy rains. The decision, made by track owner Don Hoenig, came early in the day so that competitors and fans alike would not head for the speedway only to find themselves heading home upon their arrival. The scheduled race program had all six of Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions along with the Valenti Modified Racing Series.

“We have many weekly competitors who drive a long distance every week. This week, with the addition of the Valenti Modified Racing Series on the schedule, complicated things just that much more. I felt it was best to cancel tonight’s race program early in the interest of all concerned,” said Hoenig. No decision has been made about the future of this event. Fans are urged to keep an eye on the track’s web site for details.

Next Thursday, September 1st, Thompson’s Thursday Night Thunder program is scheduled to feature all six NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions with the spotlight being on the 40-lap Super Late Model main event.

Fans are reminded that lap sponsorship for the UNOH SHOWDOWN is still being offered. The two-day event, September 10th & 11th, featuring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will present each Touring Series in its own 125-lap feature event followed by a combination of the two Tours in a 50-lap, $15,0000.00 to win Showdown.

For tickets to the SHOWDOWN or for lap sponsorship information, calls can be made to the Thompson track office. 860-923-2280. Fans are urged to visit the track’s web page often for updates on all racing activity at Thompson www.thompsonspeedway.com (http://www.thompsonspeedway.com).
