Modified stock car driver Anthony Sesely of Matawan and Legend Cars speedster Derek Hopkinson of Toms River each enjoyed 40-lap feature race victories at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night (9/3). Sesely’s victory was his fifth of the year, while Hopkinson enjoyed his sixth win of the campaign.

Farmingdale’s Billy Cole led the Modified race early, before Shaun Carrig of Little Falls raced into the lead on lap 20. Soon Tim Arre of Toms River and Sesely charged into second and third and the lead trio hooked up in a tight fight for the lead.

This lead battle boiled over with just eight laps remaining when the trio touched and Carrig went spinning. With the officials feeling that Arre contributed to the miscue, he was sent to the rear of the pack moving Sesely into the lead and on to the eventual win. Freehold’s Chas Okerson, Chris Hamilton of North Haledon, Lafayette’s Roger Coss and Arre completed the top five.

“From what I saw it seemed like a racing accident,” Sesely said after the event. “When the 54 car slowed it seemed to trigger a chain reaction. I just wish we all could have raced to the finish.”

Hopkinson was dominant in the INEX Legend Cars 40-lapper. He charged his No. 17 to the front with just four laps down and never looked back. Howell’s Robert French recovered from early trouble to impress with a runner-up finish, while Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan was third and brothers Zach and Trevor, both of Willingboro, were fourth and fifth.

“I always thank my family, but this week they really worked hard on the car,” Hopkinson said. “I started college this week, so they had to have the car done early. They did a great job.”

In the companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars, Brick’s Robert Sutphin raced into the lead early and drove on to his second win of the year. Zach Alspach, Howell’s Kevin Davison, Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck and Brick’s Joe Mongeau were second through fifth.

Howell’s Steve West took the lead on lap 10 and then raced on to his third victory of the year in the Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stock 25-lapper. Whitey Miller of Jamesburg, Beachwood’s Todd Pilla, Brick’s Troy Gant and Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach completed the top five.

Brick’s Ron Frees continued to impress in the Street Stock division by winning his fourth straight 25-lap main event. Jackson’s Howie Conk, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen, Nick Kopf of Keyport and Chatham’s Nick Shaw were second through fifth.

Wall Stadium offers motorsports action on both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon this coming weekend. On the Saturday night (9/10) card the TQ Midgets, INEX Legend Cars, Sportsman cars and the Street Stocks all race in 25-lap main events. In addition, a “Powder Puff” race for the ladies will be presented, Garden State Vintage Stock Car Clubs cars will be on display and go-karts will compete on the “inner oval.”

Saturday’s card will also feature the fans in “Banner Night” competition as they parade their banners for their favorite drivers for prizes. The speedway also urges fans to bring nonperishable foods for a food drive for victims of Hurricane Irene. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Then on Sunday “BigFoot” will lead a field of six Monster Trucks to the track for figure eight racing competition. In addition, Hollywood stuntmen and motorcycle jumpers will perform. Gates will open at noon, with an autograph session and Monster Truck rides starting at 1:00 p.m. The main event is set for 3:00 p.m. with a second autograph and Monster Truck ride session to follow.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
