The Labor Day weekend of racing continued on Sunday at Mountain Speedway and just like the previous evening, the crowd on hand witnessed some fierce battles on the racetrack. When it was all said and done, Dave Brigati of Calverton, NY brought home his third Sport Modified victory of the season. Fifteen-year-old Austin Kochenash of Danielsville, PA took his first career Late Model victory at the speedway and Matt Schlenker of Walnutport, PA remained patient to score his fourth Factory Stock victory of the season. Matt Papa charged through the field to take the checkers en route to his second straight INEX Legends victory at the track.

Pat Verwys led the Sport Modified field to the drop of the green flag in the 40-lap main event. With one lap complete, Jason Hearne held the second spot, followed by Nick Pecko, chip Wanamaker and Dave Brigati.

Pecko battled with Hearne for second in the early going and the two ran side by side for a number of laps, allowing Verwys to open up a comfortable gap. The pair got situated and the Brigati mounted a charge of his own and then climbed into second when he got underneath Hearne on lap seven.

A single car spin involving Todd Geist brought out the yellow flag on lap eight and Verwys had company for the restart. Brigati lined up in second, followed by Hearne, Pecko and Wanamaker.

Green flag racing resumed and Brigati took the lead and then Hearne followed through to take second. As the leaders toured the track nose to tail, the action behind then began to heat up, as Wanamaker, Pecko, Paul Frantz Todd Baer and Rusty Smith all battled for position.

Brigati continued to lead over Hearne at the halfway mark, with Frantz, Smith and Wanamaker in tow.

Since taking the lead, it was evident that Brigati was the class of the field and he drove away to take his third feature win of the season. Hearne finished a close second, followed by Frantz and Wanamaker. Smith got by both Baer and Wanamaker in the last two laps to take the spot.

Heat race victories went to Chip Wanamaker and Pat Verwys.

Rick Smith started from the pole and led the opening circuit of the 30-lap Late Model feature. Travis Fisher held second, with Austin Kochenash, Adam Cox and Craig Lutz in tow.

With Smith still in command on lap five, Kochenash got under Fisher and took the second spot. Lutz followed by Fisher shortly after and then Kyle Harvell overtook him for the fourth spot on lap eight.

Kochenash reeled in the leader and overtook him for the top spot on lap eight. Smith settled into the second spot, followed by Lutz, Harvell and Fisher.

Lutz and Harvell worked on Smith and they both finally overtook him for second and third respectively on lap 11. However, neither of them seemed to have anything for Kochenash, who went on to score his first win at the speedway.

Lutz settled for second, followed by Harvell. In a very solid performance, Smith ended up fourth, followed by Fisher in fifth in the caution-free event.

Austin Kochenash and Travis Fisher scored heat race victories.

Brandon Oltra led his fellow competitors to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap Factory Stock feature. He led the opening circuit over Keith Frankenfield, Paul Morgan, Sr. and Rich Paciotti before the yellow flag waved when Frankenfield spun in turn two.

Green flag racing resumed and Morgan, Sr. grabbed the race lead from Oltra. Meanwhile, Paul Morgan, Jr. climbed to the third spot, with Chris Parry and Matt Schlenker following close behind.

With only a few laps remaining, Paciotti made his way back into the top five and battled side by side with Parry for the fourth spot. Meanwhile, things got hot toward the front as Morgan, Jr. and Oltra balled for second.

With two laps remaining, Oltra tried to hold off a charge from Morgan, Jr. While racing hard, the two touched and Morgan, Jr. went around. That changed around the top five and Parry, Paciotti, Schlenker and Frankenfield lined up for the restart behind Morgan, Sr.

In a shootout to the finish, Parry and Morgan, Sr. battled side by side for the win. The pair tangled entering turn one on what would have been the final lap, but the yellow flag was thrown.

Schlenker assumed the lead and led the final lap to the finish to score his fourth feature win of the season. Paciotti, Frankenfield, Parry and Kenny Kleppinger completed the top five.

Heat race wins went to Paul Morgan, Jr. and Keith Frankenfield.

Carl Jones started from the pole position and led the opening circuit of the 20-lap INEX Legends feature over Stephen Hershey, Raven Schrantz, Todd McCollum and Brandon Michael.

McCollum overtook the leader on the second lap and along with Scott Hubler, Matt Papa began to drive into the top five.

The yellow flag flew when Hubler and Hershey tangled in turns three and four. Another yellow flag followed on the very next lap, which set up a restart with McCollum as the leader and Papa scored second. With the green flag back out, Papa drove off with the lead.

With all of the side by side racing action in his mirror, Papa opened up the gap between himself and second place McCollum to take his second straight victory at the speedway. Van Michael finished third, followed by B. Michael and Tony Hanbury.

Todd McCollum and Matt Papa were heat race winners.
