HAMILTON WINS RACE; SESELY TAKES MODIFIED TITLE AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

Chris Hamilton of North Haledon won the final 40-lap battle of the regular season, while Anthony Sesely of Matawan won the season-long war for the Modified stock car driving title at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was Hamilton’s second win of the campaign, while Sesely celebrated his first speedway driving crown.

While Hamilton jumped to the lead in the early going, he had no easy time of it as defending champion Chas Okerson of Freehold chased him all the way to the finish. Although the battle for the lead was exciting, even more thrills were offered while Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Sesely, Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, Jason Treat of Jackson and Roger Coss of Lafayette battled for position close behind.

At the checker it was Hamilton, Okerson, Carrig and Sesely who nailed down the crown with his fourth place finish. Treat completed the top five.

“I have to thank Chas for being a gentleman,” Hamilton said in the winner’s circle. “Don’t get me wrong, he didn’t let me nap, but he drove a very clean race.”

Robert Vassilatos, Jr. of Brick fought off stiff competition to win the companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars. After wrestling past fellow Brick resident Adam Gordon in the early going, Vassilatos fought off Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Kevin Eyres of Clots Neck for the win. Eyres earned his third straight driving title with his third place finish, followed by Zach Alspach of Willingboro and Shawna Ingraham of Brick.

Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach came from deep in the pack to win his 12th Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stock main event of the season and nail down the 2011 driving title. John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant was the runner-up, while Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach, Whitey Miller of Old Bridge and Brick’s Ronnie Mullen completed the top five.

Derek Hopkinson of Toms River raced to victory and the divisional driving crown in the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Robert French was second and Trevor Alspach of Willingboro was a tight third. Ron Poley of Egg Harbor Township and Eatontown’s Malcolm Campbell completed the top five.

Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg led from start to finish to grab the victory in the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks. Shannon Mongeau was a close second, while Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood was third and Howie Conk of Jackson, who clinched the 2011 driving crown, was fourth. Mike Tillett of Bayville was fifth.

This Friday evening, September 30, Wall Stadium will host the final free to the public custom, muscle car, street rod, racecar and classic car show of the year. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the show continues until dark.

Wall Stadium will then return to action on Saturday, October 22, with the first annual “Halloween Spooky Spectacular.” This afternoon event will feature the Modifieds in a 75-lapper, while the Sportsman cars, Legend Cars, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, TQ Midgets and the visiting dirt track Sportsman cars are all scheduled for 30-lappers. Pit area and grandstand opening times will be announced soon.

The track will then present a NEETS Enduro on October 30 before closing out the year with the two-day Turkey Derby on Thanksgiving weekend.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400, while CKMotorsports@aol.com is the track's email address. More information is also available at www.wallspeedway.com.
