(LEHIGHTON, PA 10-1-11) Inclement afternoon weather with a forecast for additional evening rain showers has put a stop to Saturday night’s racing at Mahoning Valley Speedway.

Despite that there is the bright spot of knowing that this week’s race card is postponed and not cancelled. Saturday, October 29 is the scheduled make-up date for the 2011 season finale at the paved Lehighton quarter-mile oval.

Headlining the slate of racing will be Hand 5 of the Modified 100 Poker Series, a $3000-to-win 100-lap feature. Also in action will be the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models Race time is 4:00 p.m.

Not only will there be $3000 for the first place finisher of the Modified race but the overall Poker Series title is up for grabs as well.

Tyler Haydt has clinched the 2011 Modified track championship but he’s not done yet as the 26-year old Kunkletown ace now has his eyes set on the Poker Series title. He holds the top poker hand with three Kings and an Ace.

Also trying to stake a claim of the ante is Matt Hirschman who is showing three Queens, an Ace and a Jack. Earl Paules has a pair of Aces and Kings. John Bennett, Chip Santee, Terry Markovic and Matt Higgins also have a hand in possibly winning with pairs of 9’s, 7’s, 6’s and 4’s respectively.

There is a $5000 jackpot with $2500 to win, $1500 for second and $1000 for third. Plus the eligible driver with the worst poker hand will collect $1000. The worst money takers include Mike Carroll, Jr., John Markovic and Don Wagner.

Although the Late Model, Dirt Mod and Pro4 Late Model classes have been decided, going into the October 29 finale the Street Stock crown is still up for grabs. The top six in Street Stock points, led by TJ Gursky, are all contesting for the title. Steven Steigerwalt, Kevin Smith, Jason Frey, Josh Mooney and Randy Ahner, Jr., will be the challengers.

Pits gates will open at noon with early practice held from 1:00 - 3:00. Regular practice will take place between 3:00 and 4:00.

At 4:00 the Modifieds will run time trials followed by heat racing for all other classes.

The 2011 Awards Celebration will take place the following day, Sunday, October 31. And, rather than the more tradition fancy dress banquet affair, it is instead going to be a casual gathering.

The Awards Celebration will be held at the Schnecksville Fire Company, 4550 Old Packhouse Road, Schnecksville, Pa., 18078. Doors open at noon with the Awards Presentation getting underway at 1:00. Food and Entertainment starts at 2:00. The band, A.D.D., will be performing.

The Mahoning Valley Speedway Awards Celebration is a very casual event and as mentioned will be in a picnic style atmosphere. Tickets are $35 a person.

Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
