Championship Deciding “King of the Mountain” Straight Ahead

Despite track drying efforts on Sunday, persistent moisture and high humidity forced the cancellation of what should have been the next to last event of the regular season at Mountain Speedway. The regular “B Program” show, including the Sport Modifieds, Late Models and Factory Stocks will not be rescheduled, and the INEX Legends Fall Championship has been rescheduled and will be ran in conjunction with the “Halloween Screamer” enduros on Saturday, October, 29. With one final weekend of points racing on the schedule, race teams are gearing up for the 12th annual “King of the Mountain” (KoTM) weekend, which is slated for the weekend of October 8th and 9th.

With double points on the line for KoTM, title contenders are preparing for the biggest weekend of the season. Bobby Jones should feel comfortable heading into Saturday’s 150-lap KoTM event, as he has already clinched this season’s Modified championship. Dave Brigati has a sizable advantage and is well on his way to his first championship in the Sport Modified division and Craig Lutz has a comfortable lead in the Late Model Division.

Both looking for their first career championships, Chip Wanamaker has a 67-point advantage over Steve Shultz in the Street Stocks and Matt Schlenker holds a slim 49-point lead over Chris Parry in the Factory Stock division. In another close battle to the end, Eric Banashefski holds a 53-point lead over Cody Roth in the FWD standings.

The 12th annual KoTM weekend will kick off at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval near Hazleton, PA on Friday, October 7 with open practice for all divisions from 6-9 PM. There is a $20 fee for the Friday’s pit pass.

The Sport Modifieds, Late Models, Factory Stocks and TQ midgets will run extended lap main events on Saturday, October 8. Time trials for the Sport Modifieds will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by heat race qualifiers for the support divisions. The afternoon will be capped off with a $2,000 to win, 100-lap Sport Modified main event.

Three big features will show case the racing on Sunday, October 9. Following practice for all divisions, the mighty Modifieds will take center stage for qualifying. Time trials will be held for the Modifieds and heat races will decide the starting line-ups for the support divisions. Consi events will fill the fields. After completion of the support division main events, including the Street Stocks and FWDs, the evening will be capped off with a $5000 to win, 150-lap main event for the Modifieds.

Grandstand admission is set at $22 and pit admission is $50 per person.
