NELMA—the annual Northeastern Pennsylvania motorsports blockbuster—returns this year to St. Johns, Pennsylvania’s Mountain Speedway on Saturday, October 22. The event features three thrilling races returning—the Legends Car Fall Classic, the Street Stock Fender Fury, and the Late Model Challenge—plus, new for 2011, the 600 Wingless Sprints. Once again fans can expect the pits to overfill with the best talent the Northeast has to offer, making the 2011 edition one of the most anticipated events of the season.

New to NELMA are the 600 Wingless Sprints. NELMA's latest addition is predicted to produce some of the fastest lap times among NELMA’s four-race show and will provide an edge-of-the-seat experience for all those in attendance.

The NELMA Late Model Challenge returns for its seventh year, but with a new twist. A race known for its unpredictability, another unknown element has been introduced. The race will be shortened to 75 laps, concentrating the action and providing an interesting twist in strategy for teams that’s sure to delight NELMA’s legion of fans.

The NELMA Street Stock Fender Fury provides some of the raciest action throughout the field, with racers as hungry for 15th as for the win. The division is a throwback to the days of souped-up junkyard warriors and will feature a tri-state battle of the Keystone State vs. the Garden State vs. the Empire State. Last year, Jeremy McDermott, who originally hailed from the Empire State, but now resides in Pennsylvania, took the second annual edition. This year, the Keystone natives will be looking to reclaim the title on their home turf.

Rounding out the day’s lineup are the 1930s and 1940s scaled-down replicas known as Legend cars. Last year Johnnie Gloor IV raced the race of his life, often to the verge of losing the handle of his car, to hold off two top-notch modified racers, Tony Hanbury and Timmy Solomito, for the win. This year a large field of Legends cars are expected to vie for the large trophy and one of the largest Legend car purses in the area.

Drivers are urged to register early to reserve their number and stake their claim to compete in one of the area’s most prestigious events.
