(LEHIGHTON, PA 10-20-11) Although Tyler Haydt has won the 2011 Modified championship at Mahoning Valley Speedway, the 26-year old driving star from Kunkletown still has his sights set on one more title at the popular ¼-mile paved Lehighton oval.

Haydt, along with several others, will be vying for the Modified 100 Poker Series crown. The final race of the five race series is slated for Saturday, October 29 starting at 4:00 p.m. The event will bring to a close the racing season at Mahoning Valley. Also in action will be the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models.

The race will be a $3000-to-win 100-lap feature but aside from the handsome first place prize there is also a $5000 purse to be divided amongst the top three poker players. $2500 goes to the winner, $1500 for runner-up and $1000 for third best hand.

Heading into the race Haydt leads all eligible card holders with three Kings and an Ace. Also trying to stake a claim of the ante is Matt Hirschman who is showing three Queens, an Ace and a Jack. Earl Paules has a pair of Aces and Kings. John Bennett, Chip Santee, Terry Markovic and Matt Higgins also have a hand in possibly be part of the winnings with pairs of 9’s, 7’s, 6’s and 4’s respectively.

At the end of each Poker Race the top 13 finishers receive a card all from the same suit starting with an ace going to the winner and so on. Either clubs, spades, hearts or diamonds will be picked at the end of each feature by the winner who will draw a card to see what suit the race was run in that evening. Drivers must compete in all five 100-lap races to be eligible for the poker money.

This year there has been a $1000 bonus added for the eligible driver with the worst poker hand. Those possible money takers include Mike Carroll, Jr., John Markovic and Don Wagner.

Now in its third year, this unique promotion has continued to draw rave reviews since it was first introduced in 2009. Last year it was nominated by the Eastern Motorsport Press Association for the ‘News Maker of the Year Award.’ Brian DeFebo and John Markovic are the previous series’ champs.

Pits gates will open at noon with early practice held from 1:00 - 3:00. Regular practice will take place between 3:00 and 4:00. Time trial will be held for the Modifieds followed by heat racing for all other classes.

Although the Late Model, Dirt Mod and Pro4 Late Model classes have been decided, going into the October 29 finale the Street Stock crown is still up for grabs. The top six in Street Stock points, led by TJ Gursky, are all contesting for the title. Steven Steigerwalt, Kevin Smith, Jason Frey, Josh Mooney and two-time and defending champion Randy Ahner, Jr., will be the challengers.

The 2011 Awards Celebration will take place the following day, Sunday, October 31. And, rather than the more tradition fancy dress banquet affair, it is instead going to be a casual gathering.

The Awards Celebration will be held at the Schnecksville Fire Company, 4550 Old Packhouse Road, Schnecksville, Pa., 18078. Doors open at noon with the Awards Presentation getting underway at 1:00. Food and Entertainment starts at 2:00. The band, A.D.D., will be performing.

The Mahoning Valley Speedway Awards Celebration is a very casual event and as stated will be in a picnic style atmosphere. Tickets are $35 a person.

Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
