I've heard 5 Caraway dates and a new track the Tour has never been to before, which I speculate to be Gresham Motorsports Park

From The Norwich Bulletin:

September’s North/South shootout, which featured both the Whelen Northern and Southern Modified Tours, will return. Hoenig said he, NASCAR and Whelen will be working on the project over the offseason to possibly get television coverage.

“It would help us get some more leverage to go out and find some sponsorship. The sponsors get a little bit of exposure out of it,” Hoenig said.

The format this year was two 125-lap races for each Tour followed by a 50-lap shootout. The 125-lap races will remain the same, although Hoenig may see if he can tinker with the 50-lap showdown race format.

Hey man

Dont change the 50 lap shootout, I thought it was perfect....Allow some sort of tire changing in the 125's though!!

Wow, just googled the track thinking that might be just a track named after say Tommy Houston or something but no it really is in Houston Tx. I guess that would be the Southern tours Canada swing?

maybe they will let their own modifieds run against them.

I'll believe there is a race in Texas when I see it.

As for your Canada reference.....From Thompson to Delaware Speedway is 10 hours and from the Stadium to Houston is 18 hours. Might as well make it 30 hours because that is a two day trip. There is no way our guys would travel two days to run for the chicken scratch 2000

I heard NASCAR was providing containers to fly the teams to Tx. just like F1!

According to Area Auto Racing News

Reportedly Rockingham will host the season closer for the NASCAR Whelen Modified South and K&N East Series

Rockingham as the season closer sounds alot better than the little legends track at Charlotte.

I would rather be in Charlotte in front of the big wigs than at Rockingham where our cars can do their best Vegas Indy Car impression. Not to mention how is 13 cars going to look on a mile track? Want a prediction on how that race will go? Think ROC on Pocono's full 2.5 miles. You think there's not much parody now, just wait and see if we run Rockingham.

roc was on the 2 1/2 mile track

For only 2 or 3 years, most of the races were on the 3/4 inner track.

Mods on anything over a mile are really out of their element. Yeah they have run on big tracks in the past but the racing wasn't all that great. Today so few guys would show it would be a joke. I'd like to see North Wilks run a big show or maybe that track in VA Shenandoah Speedway. A nice looking 3/8's that would give the handling cars and even chance against the horsepower. Caraway looks like a one groover to me.

roc was on the 2 1/2 mile track

Really Sherlock? I wonder why I referenced it????

Mike states my point that Modified races on big tracks are terrible races i.e. the ROC on the 2.5 miles. Shenandoah would be a good track, but its not Nascar sanctioned. It looks like a smaller Lake Erie perhaps. The WMT raced there several years ago I believe.

If it's not going back to Concord, too bad the NS Shootout couldn't be a Whelen Tour Combo race at the Rock. Get more cars that way.. And hope that the final race at Rockingham isn't a 2000 or 3000 to win show.

BigMac
11-23-2011, 02:28 PM
Nascar tried to get in on that action a few years ago. They were turned away by the north/south shootout folks. You have to be cautious. If you combined them and Rockingham fails then fans are out two races in 2013.

I had hoped for a combo event at Rockingham but there still should still be a few northern teams down..... but it seems Nascar is starting to listen to me.

The North/South Shootout was a great event. Each 125 was good, and the 50 combined was great. It ain't broke, leave it alone.

If anything needs to be fixed is the low car count for the southern cars.

The event at Thompson was the North/South Showdown.
The event at Caraway was the traditional North/South Shootout.
The event at Rockingham isn't either. It will be a new event next year, but some are thinking the modified portion might become a version of the traditional Shootout.
It looks like posts about the three events are getting intermixed.

Just looked at the South Boston schedule and it appears mods will share the billing with late models, not the K and N series. I wasn't going to go to SoBo this year, with Thompson the next day, but maybe have to change my mind now. Or at least, I will purchase two tickets just to show my support for the modifieds at SOBO.

I was told at the Banquet that it would be released at the same time as the WMT schedule, which as of yesterday was Wednesday, but on Saturday I was told Monday or Tuesday. Either way it will be this week. There was one possible addition, which didn't materialize.
