Its so nice to get my area auto paper and see every track getting there tropheys and money from there tracks at a nice banquet. Its nice To see the drivers honored and photos taken for all the winners. It use to be such a honor at riverhead to win and get that check and to make a small speech to the hundreds that came to the event. Now we have to have tropheys donated for our weekly winners and we have 40-50 people show up for a lunch. I have to thank Bob finan for all he does for us but i think its time for Riverhead Raceway to give back to the people that help support there track. I hope you read this barbra and jim you cant take the money with you. Wouldnt it make you guys feel good to give back. But if greed is what you guys want then you have achieve your ultimate goal.:-) 81

Chris I'm not disagreeing with you, but a few points. The point fund was always donated or raised by the tire supplier, the Crommartys never had a point fund it was always Formac Welding or Van Dyke and Yousik or Trailer Transport. As for the banquet we the people ruined that. We the people couldn't act like adults. We the people went to the Marriot and threw all the furniture in the pool. We the people wrecked the rooms and every year.............Barbara and Jim had to pay that bill, after a while it had to be a little much. Then we go to Polish Hall where you have to buy beer and people bring in their own coolers and their own liquor because they don't want to pay.......... Underage drinkers are throwing up on tables. Thus that guy doesn't want us anymore, again nothing to do with Barbara and Jim. I believe unless I'm wrong that you guys still get your point fund checks from NASCAR, for the other point fund you need to talk to the tire vendors. No one wants to be pro-active Leah Maynor worked her ass off for a point fund and maybe 15% of the drivers worked with her (you of course did heavily support that) but if no one else wants to make the effort why should she?? In this economy people aren't just giving $$$ away.

I did the 1st FREE (No one paid to get in)banquets at JC's the first time we had 125 people the second time was 150 so we've had more than 50-60 people. So the work Bobby and myself did to get that thing going was great. Put it out there Chris find out who would pay for a nice lavish banquet??? The Cromartys used to pay most of the bill until WE ruined it. I think it would be awesome and I think the Champions deserve it, but who's paying?? You think they should?? I don't think that'll happen. I'm just saying back in the day when your Dad was racking up Championships we used to have these things but the competitors who wanted them are the same competitors that for 4 hrs couldn't be mature enough to have them.

In closing I think you deserve a banquet, but just remember what got us to this point of not having them, US. As for the trophies being donated.......that just sucks.

Steve,
When Eddie took over as tire supplier, the price of tires had gone up. The drivers were all asked either pay the extra money for a point fund or get better tire price. They opted for cheaper tire price and drop fund....

You also hit the nail on the head with the banquets.....

So that now vindicates the Tire Supplier. I thought it had to be something like that.

Back when Joel was doing it he was told how much he had to charge and was told he would "donate"$5. from every tire.

Steve i have to say thanks to you and Timmy also for what you guys did for us at J Cs. Its a far cry from the marriot the good old days.LOL But when they start giving out a point fund from where ever, I think that will be the next time you see almost all the top 5 drivers in each division at a banquet.

regardless of who USED to pay out a point fund, why can't the track owners create a point fund now? With all of the profits from the entry fees and everything else, can't they afford it?

it ain't going to happen that way and making comments like that isn't going
to help persuade them either.

I went to a few banquets at the Marriot. Couldn't believe the way some people acted. Was as if it was the first time they went drinking? I cannot blame the Marriot as I would not want that happening to my hotel. And the whole Polish Hall thing is just people being extremely cheap. So now there is no where to go and the Cromatry's are to blame? I'm not buying it. I have been to other banquets and believe it or not everyone acted civilized, and had fun! As far as the point fund goes, I worked with Leah on the golf outing and support of it was minimal. I guess you could start the $5 per tire system again but most are complaining about the cost of tires/racing as it is. Perhaps working as Leah did but in the off-season when teams are not busy working on their race cars or spending what free time they do have with their family would work better?

Yes, that is true.

Would $5/tire even create much of a point fund anymore? Car counts are down, besides modifieds/latemodels I don't believe many guys are buying tires every week like they used to. What SAFER does and what Leah attempted is the best method.

Maybe Rovin Promotions or someone of the like can find a private divisional sponsor. Someone willing to put up a few thousand as a point fund and the entire division agrees to put their name on the car.

Well thank you Hollywood mic KAsh and Golf guy....

All i can say is this. People are still gonna complain no matter what you do. You will not get support from most of the people complaining. As i learned from trying to do something about a point fund for the drivers.

We started off great with the bowling fundraiser but then took a hit at the casino night fundraiser...All of 4 drivers showed up with some crew members and family. Even the 50/50 started to dwindle at the end. Even with that i got the " 50/50 again?" you cant please everyone.I even donated my own baseball tickets along with the winner of 50/50 one week.

Gayle Walkowiak, MAryann Giordano and myself dedicated alot of time and even our own money into trying to something that was right for the drivers. But not enough appreciation or participation came of it. I got very disgusted. I even had invited everyone to the Safer banquet so drivers, wives, crews and owners can be recognized together have fun, have the dj, Have the dance floor, Have the OPEN bar for the same price everyone paid at the polish hall( that didn't have any of that).

It could've been a better turn out with more people participating yes. But it was better than nothing. For those who did participated had fun.

Well i know the track has fined us Turbushs 1000 to start the 2012 season where is the money going????????????Maybe into a point fund.lolllllllllllllll As far as the marriot dont blame the 2011 people for somethings that happened 5 to 10 years ago. The Cromartys are to blame raise the damn money for people to win its been the same since the 80s. Figure out a way as owners to give us a point fund we shouldnt have to make one our self. If you need an example take stafford and look at what they do to give a point fund to there drivers. So yes they are to blame. Like i said dont punish people for what some idiots did years ago at a banquet that half the new drivers were never at. Im just saying if the owners cared about the drivers a little more it would go a long way. Yes im happy to have a track to race in my hometown but as i get older that phrase is getting OLD.
