(LEHIGHTON, PA 11-6-11) Will the third time be the charm? Mahoning Valley Speedway is hoping that will indeed be the case as the popular Lehighton paved ¼-mile oval will try yet again to run their season finale.
Set to take place on Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m., the speedway’s Hand 5 of the Modified 100 will headline the afternoon of stock racing that also includes feature events for the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models.
The race has twice been delayed by inclement weather, first on October 1 and again on October 29.
$3000 awaits the winner of the 100-lapper. Along with that is the question of who will be the 2011 Poker Series champion.
The Modified Poker Series carries a $5000 purse divided three ways among the top three card holders at the conclusion of the specially run five race series. $2500 goes to the winner, $1500 for runner-up and $1000 for third best hand. This year there is a $1000 bonus added for the eligible driver with the worst poker hand.
Recently crowned Modified champion Tyler Haydt will be looking to add the Poker Series title to this year’s accomplishments. However, he’ll have to beat the likes of Matt Hirschman and Earl Paules who are very much in the game.
Haydt holds the top poker hand with three Kings and an Ace. Hirschman is showing three Queens, an Ace and a Jack while Paules has a pair of Aces and Kings. John Bennett, Chip Santee, Terry Markovic and Matt Higgins also have a hand in possibly winning a portion of the pot with pairs of 9’s, 7’s, 6’s and 4’s respectively.
The eligible drivers with the worst poker hand include Mike Carroll, Jr., John Markovic and Don Wagner.
Pits gates will open at 10:00 a.m. with practice running from noon - 2:00. Time trials for the Modifieds and heats for the other classes will begin immediately after.
The extended forecast heading into next Sunday looks very promising and with no other area tracks in action that day a full pit area of race cars is expected, the Modifieds especially.
