(LEHIGHTON, PA 11-9-11) With a very favorable weather forecast for Sunday that shows the temperature nearing 60 degrees, Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway is confidently looking good to finally bring the curtain down on the 2011 season.

Set to take place on Sunday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m., the speedway’s Hand 5 of the Modified 100 will headline the afternoon of stock racing that also includes feature events for the Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models. The race has twice been delayed by inclement weather, first on October 1 and again on October 29.

When race cars finally hit the track it will mark close to two months since the last time a race was conducted. It was September 17 so drivers in all classes will no doubt be raring to go.

And with no other area tracks running that day this has all the makings of a thrilling day with plenty of cars expected to fill the pits.

$3000 awaits the winner of the 100-lapper. Along with that is the question of who will be the 2011 Poker Series champion.

Newly crowned Modified track champion Tyler Haydt will be leading the brigade of Modified stars. He is tops among all eligible card holders with three Kings and an Ace. If he is able to improve on that hand Haydt will collect $2500 of the $5000 Poker Series purse. He’ll of course be shooting for the race win and maximize his day’s take to over $5500.

There are two others, however, that will also being eyeing that same amount. Matt Hirschman and Earl Paules.

Hirschman, fresh off his win in the North-South Shootout last weekend at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC, is a master of 100 lap races at Mahoning Valley. His six career track victories have all been in the extra distance runs including one earlier this season. He is going into Hand 5 showing three Queens, an Ace and a Jack.

Paules has 17 Mahoning Modified wins including two this season. Four have come in 100-lappers with the most recent being Hand 4 on August 20. Better known as “The Hurricane” he has a pair of Aces and Kings coming in Sunday’s main event.

Then there is John Bennett, Chip Santee, Terry Markovic and Matt Higgins who also have hands that could possibly earn them part of the winnings with pairs of 9’s, 7’s, 6’s and 4’s respectively.

At the end of each Poker Race the top 13 finishers receive a card all from the same suit starting with an ace going to the winner and so on. Either clubs, spades, hearts or diamonds will be picked at the end of each feature by the winner who will draw a card to see what suit the race was run in that evening. Drivers must compete in all five 100-lap races to be eligible for the poker money.

This year there has been a $1000 bonus added for the eligible driver with the worst poker hand. Vying for that loot are Mike Carroll, Jr., John Markovic and Don Wagner.

A star-studded field of pavement aces are awaiting the chance to get on track as well which will make Sunday’s show perhaps one of the best in the stories history of the popular quarter mile.

Pits gates will open at 10:00 a.m. with practice running from noon - 2:00. Time trials for the Modifieds and heats for the other classes will begin immediately after.

Grandstand admission is $20.00. $2.00 off admission prices for students, seniors (65+) and active military (ID's Must Be Shown). Children 10 & under are free.

Mahoning Valley Speedway, run under the direction of the husband and wife team of Doug and Gena Hoffman, is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton.
