New Mahoning Valley front man Floyd Santee meets the Press at EMPA convention

During the Eastern Motorsport Press Association 41st annual convention held January 6-8 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in King of Prussia, members of the media got the opportunity to meet Mahoning Valley Speedway’s new promoter Floyd Santee.

While addressing the press Santee fielded numerous questions about his plans for the upcoming season and officially unveiled the 2012 schedule for the paved quarter mile oval located in Lehighton.

There will be a solid 25 weeks of racing taking place which starts on April 14 and runs through October 6.

Santee, who has been around the eastern Pennsylvania asphalt scene for the past half-decade, will be promoting racing for the first time, but despite that inexperience he spoke confidently about his immediate and future plans for the track that he has had a lifelong fondness for.

He noted that payout increases will be seen in all five weekly classes which are Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models.

Gone will be the popular 100-lap Modified Poker Series and in place are three nights of triple 25’s. Santee explained that he comprised a purse in which all finishers of those races can ultimately walk away with more money than they would have in a single 100-lapper. April 28, June 16 and August 11 are the dates for those shows.

Fans will still get to see extra distance Modified runs with the Harold Lloyd Memorial 76-lapper on September 15 and the year will conclude with one of the infamous Mahoning 100-lappers on October 6.

The Street Stocks and Late Models will also have the chance to run additional lap features on several occasions.

Concluding his session with the EMPA media Santee relayed that he is eager to speak with fans and drivers and indicated that a special meet and greet is planned for Saturday, January 14 at the Slatedale Fire Hall, 3922 Main Street in Slatedale beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Schedules plus rules for all classes will be available and drivers can also use that opportunity to purchase their 2012 pit licenses.

On Friday night of the EMPA convention 2011 Mahoning Modified and Late Model champs Tyler Haydt and Austin Kochenash were special guests along with a number of other track and series titlists who mingled among the press and spoke of their championship accomplishments and laid out their plans for the upcoming season.

Mahoning Valley Speedway will also be part of the Motorsports 2012 presented by SEF Small Engine Fuels that takes place on January 20-22 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks.

Kochenash will have his championship No. 66 Late Model car on displayed and will be joined by Earl Paules and his No. 8 Modified.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com.
