It’s been just over a month since Floyd Santee signed on as the new promoter and lease holder of Lehighton’s Mahoning Valley Speedway and since then he and his staff have been working virtually nonstop.

Santee and company have already released the 2012 schedule for the paved quarter mile oval that features 25 weeks of Saturday night racing starting in mid-April.

He has also met with members of the auto racing media at the Eastern Motorsport Press Association annual convention. At the same affair 2011 Mahoning Modified and Late Model champs Tyler Haydt and Austin Kochenash also were on hand.

There has also been a very encouraging gathering with his Late Model drivers as that particular division had been in somewhat of a star-crossed state the past few seasons due to dwindling car counts. Over 25 teams showed up for the meeting and the outlook is that Late Models are ready to make a strong comeback thanks to a few rule adjustments and purse increase.

And just this past Saturday Santee held a meet and greet for drivers and fans at the Slatedale Fire Hall where he, along with co-Race Director Tim Santee, explained to the packed house their current state of affairs and what to expect when the April 14 Opening Day arrives.

It was a very positive and productive meeting that drew and rousing round of applause when it was announced that all five Mahoning classes, Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Dirt Mods and Pro4 Late Models will see and increase at the payout window this year.

Also, thanks to some cooperative weather, crews have been working on an almost daily basis at the track. Painting to minor and major repairs and everything in between is being done in assuring that the facility will be in A-one shape come April.

Next up for Santee will be Motorsports 2012 presented by SEF Small Engine Fuels that takes place on January 20-22 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks.

While at the show race schedules will be ready for circulation plus drivers can sign up for their pit spots and licenses. Class and general rules can be picked up as well.

Santee and members of his staff will be readily available throughout the weekend to field any questions and concerns about the upcoming season.

Modified standout Earl Paules will have his No.8 Modified on display at the Mahoning booth as will Kochenash with his title wining No. 66 mount.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on PA route 443, two miles west of Lehighton. Additional info can be found on the track’s website at www.mahoningvalley-speedway.com and Facebook.
