The wheels will begin to turn at the famed half mile Spencer Speedway oval for the 58th year in a row on Friday, May 11, when the cars and stars at the track run their annual “Test & Tune” session at the track.
Gates will open that day at 3 p.m., allowing everyone to buy their pit passes and NASCAR Licenses for the season. For the third year in a row, Spencer will participate with Holland and Chemung Speedways running their annual Challenge series. The series dates for Holland are May 26th, June 23rd, July 14th, August 4th and August 25th. The dates at the Spencer Speedway are May 18th, July 6th, July 27th, August 17th and September 7th. The series will also head to the Chemung Speedrome on June 24th and July 29th.
Weekly racing begins at Spencer on Friday, May 18 with a complete program of Sunoco Modifieds, Super Sixes, Super Stocks and Auto Value 4-Cylinder cars. Joining the program that night will be the Legend cars and Empire Trucks. Race time will remain be 7:30 p.m. again this season.
Fifteen NASCAR racing programs dot the Spencer 2012 schedule starting on May 18 and ending September 7.
New this year is an adjustment to the points. Drivers will now get just one additional point for leading a feature race and one additional point for leading the most laps. Heats points will now “pay back” five spots; 5,4,3,2, and 1 point for each place,
“We are trying to tighten up the points some by these changes,” stated race director Larry Steurrys.
Highlights for the 2012 season include an appearance of the RoC Modified Touring cars on Friday, June 8, running a 75 lapper. A 100 lap Sunoco Modified race is set for June 29. This will be the only 100-lapper run during the season. The Sunoco Modified will also be running Twin 25’s on August 3. The season ender on September 7 will include a 75 lapper for the Sunoco Modifieds and a 50 lapper for the Super Stocks. A special appearance by the Casey TQ Midget racers is also scheduled for that day.
Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester , NY , along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson . Spencer Speedway is the local “ NASCAR Place to Race” for Central New York . Points earned each week at Spencer are counted into the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Points.
